Work in progress, enamelled copper flames for my fabric sacred heart ā™„ļø

Not a fire that destroys, but a fire that purifies.

I’m hoping that adding in the juxtaposition of fabric against torched and sawn elements will add a new dynamism to my work. It certainly feels strange and I’ve wanted to combine the two for a since I began using metal two years ago, necessity has brought it about now due to being unsure if I could afford to have pieces cast over the last few months. I was unsure for the longest time whether this was something I wanted to do but the need to create drives everything else.

I’m currently partway through producing a body of a work for a show I’m taking part in, in a little over two weeks time, in London and I’ll tell you about that as work progresses, in another post! ā™„ļø

Heart ā™„ļø Copper, fabric, thread, stuffing

The start of a new project examining the juxtaposition of using metal and fabric, connecting the two by fine threads. The soft, thin fabric seems startlingly vulnerable against the cold sharp metal.

Isn’t 2025 the year that keeps on giving 😪 I don’t think we’ve ever been so divided as people in my whole lifetime.

Sacred heart with pins, worn on a green fur coat ā™„ļø pins in hearts feels kind of relevant right now, even as carriers of pain rather than sympathetic magic of inflicting pain. I love my sacred heart brooches, whilst making this one and adding each pin I certainly felt the reasons for the pain each pin carried. Perhaps as sympathetic magic, I might make a heart where the pins are in and then removed one by one and think of the people I’d like pain to be removed from. The world hurts to be a part of at the moment.

Blessed Samhain šŸ–¤šŸŽƒ

Part 1

I love this account and I love that my jewellery is so completely authentically me, what you see is, simply, a metal embodiment of myself which is kind of thrilling. There’s some opulence, extravagance, unexpected things for those who don’t pay attention but for those who do… there’s comfort and consistency. Never one to follow the crowd or a trend, my jewellery comes entirely from my own warm, beating heart. Always with a focus on the macabre, magic and adding in my old favourite; death… for if you didn’t realise I have a preoccupation with death. Born out of being deeply afraid of death since I was around the age of 13 when my grandma was seriously ill. I was both horrified and fascinated seeing her in hospital with tubes coming out of her. Nobody had explained properly what I would see in hospital that day before I went, and no one said anything after. The image of her never left me. Many people are fascinated with say, Steampunk, because they think it looks cool. I had a deep hatred of steampunk because I met it a few years after seeing my grandma in the hospital, I drew the comparison with industrial themed pieces on the skin and my grandma being saved by these plastic tubes which went into her skin. This merge of the natural with the man made has remained an uneasy horror - fascination of mine… I sit somewhere between the two. At aged 13 I was quite ill for a while, I think seeing my grandma like that kicked off heath anxiety in me and I became convinced I was dying. It’s an affliction that’s never entirely at bay and becomes a problem again when too much stress hits (oh hello 2025 šŸ’€). Of course as you grow older no one can convince you to ignore the reality that you are actually going to die. There is, unfortunately, no elixir of life. When I started my jewellery I wanted to be true to me, so I ran with a bunch of monks I’d drawn up in mid winter 2023 and also, Queen. I imagined where they lived and some stories about their life. After learning they were undead I decided to try to give them eternal life by making them so many beautiful, precious jewels that the devil-esque creature in charge couldn’t say no.

One very beautiful tourmalinated quartz set into fine silver on a stunning sterling silver textured ring shank.

A ring like no other, sterling silver beading decorates the top, enhancing the stone’s beauty. Patina carefully applied over the silver creates a surprising array of colours from blue to grey and even orange!

Tourmalinated quartz is such a wonderfully powerful crystal, made up of strikes of black tourmaline in clear quartz: this stone combines the qualities of both crystals. It is a very grounding stone and is excellent at offering protection, balance and harmony by dispelling and protecting against negative energies. Black tourmaline is excellent at protecting against electromagnetic fields too, it can change the energy around a person to make their aura more protective- a fact that I found mind blowing! šŸ–¤

Beautiful, ruggedly textured silver holds a stunning rose quartz in this adjustable ring 🩷

Rose quartz is the most wonderful stone for the eternal love and compassion of oneself. It opens the heart chakra and is a wonderful stone to use in meditation, where it can be held near or on the heart chakra energy centre, because it can help dispel anger by encouraging love and compassion, it is also useful in helping with the emotional healing of pain and also in finding loving relationships. Rose quartz also has a big part to play in releasing tension, grief, sadness and anxiety.

I really love working with rose quartz, I think it’s a beautiful gemstone with incredible healing qualities that many of us could do with using right now, given the state of the world ā˜ ļø

The unique thing about my work is that it is just that; completely unique. When you choose a piece of my work you will see that there is not another like it in the world. My knowledge and skills have been gained from experimentation and many of my pieces, particularly my hand fabricated pieces (with fire and metal) are technically challenging that even several experienced jewellers have asked me how I managed to create them and get them to work. I am quite proud of that to be honest. I do like a challenge and in addition to the general dark theme of my jewellery, my pieces are often led by a curiosity of 'I wonder what will happen if...' or 'I wonder if I could...'

Each piece is unique and takes many hours to create. They cannot be copied because the vision behind my brand and the stories behind each piece are in my imagination and are unique to me. Each piece has no wide commercial value to be copied and mass produced as that is not what we are dealing with here. At Brother Banquo and Queen the jewels created are highly unusual, one off pieces. No two the same, with gnarly yet beautiful and surprising textures and colours, with an avid use of copper, brass and bronze next to silver and sometimes gold that has had some Goldsmiths wild with fury that 'base metals' should ever be chosen to work alongside silver and gold in highly worked, intricate pieces! When you choose a piece of my jewellery you are not only choosing a piece that will last a lifetime and beyond... you are choosing a dramatically bold piece of jewellery that has its own story and roots embedded in death, glorious old buildings, medieval manuscripts and of course the sheer love that goes into each piece. Death and love... what more could a person want. Of course there's also the hilarious stories of the monks behind my brand too...
