A quieter Saturday morning after a busy week in the workshop...

One of the things I love most about making Bladnoch Botanics here in southwest Scotland is how much inspiration there is just outside the door.

Coast, woodland, gardens and the Galloway hills have all found their way into the fragrances and stories behind the range.

What started with a search for a locally made liquid soap has grown into something much bigger than I originally imagined — but that connection to this little corner of Scotland is still at the heart of it.

And now, with the Book Festival just around the corner, it's going to be a busy few weeks in Bladnoch and Wigtown!

The countdown to Wigtown Book Festival is well and truly on!

I had a meeting with the new owner of the pop-up shop I've used for the last two years and I'm delighted that I'll be able to use it again for this year's festival!

I'm still working on opening times, but I'm planning to be open during the core festival hours throughout the Book Festival.

It's always such a brilliant time to be in Wigtown. There are so many interesting speakers coming this year, lots happening around the town and that lovely festival buzz beginning to build.

I'll share more about the pop-up shop very soon — but for now, it's back to making sure I have plenty of stock ready!

I'm starting to plan ahead as there's a lot on over the coming weeks. I recently heard that I have secured a place on Business Gateway's Five to Thrive programme, which I'm really looking forward to.

Bladnoch Botanics has grown gradually from the original idea of creating a locally made liquid soap, and this feels like a good time to look at the next stage of development — including strategy, marketing, finances and growing online sales.

Running a small business involves constantly learning and adapting, so I'm excited to see what the programme can bring and to put some new ideas into practice.

What a fantastic weekend wedding, full of family, love & laughter. ❤️

The bride and groom were absolutely brilliant — full of life and energy — and it was such a lovely wedding.

I think Angus's highlight may have been his dance-off with the groom... there were some interesting moves on that dancefloor! 🕺😂

We left before the post-wedding swim, which I can't say I was too disappointed about — it looked rather cold!

Now it's back to Bladnoch and into the workshop today. A wonderful weekend away, but lots to get on with over the next couple of weeks!

A slightly distracted week in the Bladnoch Botanics workshop…

It’s a busy week of family celebrations here — two of my sisters had their birthdays on Tuesday (including a big 40th!), it’s my mum’s birthday today, and we have a family wedding this weekend!

So there’s been plenty going on alongside the usual making, bottling and workshop jobs.

And there’s definitely a Bladnoch Botanics theme to the presents this week… all three birthday girls are getting a little something, as are the newlyweds!

I’ve also tucked away a few lovely gifts from some of the other small businesses I discovered at Kirkcudbright last weekend.

A week when family life and small-business life are very happily mixed together!

What a weekend!

A huge thank you to everyone who organised and helped set up at Kirkcudbright Farmers' Market for the Kirkcudbright Fringe markets on Saturday and Sunday — and, of course, to everyone who came along to visit my stall.

It was lovely to see so many familiar faces, meet lots of new ones, and have so many of you stop to try, chat about and take home Bladnoch Botanics products.

Two very busy days, but a great weekend. Thank you!

Some lovely news to finish the week!

I had a great meeting today with Mary-Jane, who has recently taken over at Soleburn Garden Centre with her husband Jack, and I’m delighted that they are now stocking Bladnoch Botanics.

You’ll find our Hand Wash and Hand Lotion there in four scents:

It’s always lovely to see Bladnoch Botanics finding a new home with another local business, and I’m really pleased to be working with Mary-Jane and Jack.

And after a busy week in the workshop, the car is now packed (rather too quickly for me to remember to take any photos!) and I’m ready for Kirkcudbright Fringe Market tomorrow and Sunday.

The little bottles are proving rather popular!

I’m back in the workshop this week making more of the 100ml range — and will be adding two more scents as soon as the labels arrive:

🌿 Lavender & Rosemary
🍋 Mandarin & Lemongrass

They’re a lovely way to try a new scent, handy for travelling, and a good size if you simply prefer a smaller bottle.

There’s lots being made this week ready for two days at Kirkcudbright Fringe Market this weekend! I’ve also replenished the Seaweed & Aloe Vera Nourishing Cream, which can be used on hands, body and face, so there will be plenty of that available too.

A lovely busy day at Kirkcudbright Farmers Market yesterday — thank you to everyone who stopped by! 💙

It was especially lovely to see such a great response to the new Seaweed & Aloe Nourishing Cream. It’s still very new in my range of products, so hearing your feedback and seeing so many jars heading off is fantastic.

I’ll be back in the workshop this week making plenty more, ready to return to Kirkcudbright for the Fringe Market this Saturday & Sunday. It is also available online for UK delivery (inlcuding Isle of Man & Channel Islands).
