Angling Scotland has launched a national survey for anglers in Scotland.

The organisation is asking anglers across the country to take a few minutes to share their views on the future of the sport.

The survey aims to gather feedback directly from anglers about the issues that matter most, helping to inform the work Angling Scotland does to represent and protect angling in Scotland.

Topics include:

• Fish stocks and conservation
• Predation
• Access to fishing
• Participation in angling
• The future of the sport

The more anglers who take part, the stronger the insight Angling Scotland will have when representing anglers and engaging with government and decision-makers.

👉 Take the survey here:

Anglers, clubs, fisheries and tackle shops are encouraged to share the survey widely so as many voices from the angling community as possible can be heard.

Our shop has always been a place to have a cuppa , a chat about fishing or life , and always a laugh . Some of the regulars suggested a weekly coffee/tea "club" across the road in "Spoonies" . What do you think ?

Since 2018, the River Dee Trust has operated a Vaki fish counter at the Falls of Muick, nr Ballater showing how the fish ladder improves access upstream. In 2025, 31 salmon and 52 sea trout passed into the upper reaches. Although 2025 dropped below the 2024 peak, it remained well above 2023 levels. Low rainfall and reduced river flows may have contributed to fewer fish moving upstream.

Update on Loch Tay diesel spill.

Following the diesel spill incident near Killin, clean-up activities are in place, led by SEPA and Scottish Water.

There is evidence of some contamination in Loch Tay which may be travelling downstream into the River Tay.

Scottish Water has taken precautionary measures to safeguard the public drinking water supply in Peth and Kinross and continues to monitor the situation.

If your property uses a private water supply that abstracts water from Loch Tay or the River Tay, please report any suspected contamination of your water to Scottish Water on 0800 0778 778.

As a precaution it is advised not to enter the water in Loch Tay or the River Tay in the Highland Perthshire or Stirling Council areas, or allow pets to enter the water, at this time.

We will provide any further updates when they become available.

Please note Scottish Water’s information and support point remains open at McLaren Hall, Main Street, Killin, FK21 8TN, and their customer support staff can be contacted on 0800 0778 778 for any queries.

How familiar does this sound ?!

Border Guns & Tackle has been on Main Street, St Boswells for the past 30yrs, and previously as Clarksons for 7yrs.
We are now facing a difficult time - If we don't see a significant increase in support, there is a very real chance we will be closing the shop within the next 12 months .

With people mainly buying on-line, independent retail shops are becoming a thing of the past , but we still can provide something that online can't. We can provide 60yrs worth of knowlege & experience between Shaun and David, providing not only equipment, but the very best of advise to ensure you have the ultimate day on the field or river ...
We also provide in-house gunsmithing for all your servicing and gun repairs, along with equipment hire and gun storage.

Do not let the small frontage fool you, the shop is a tardis, and we endeavour to cater for all your needs..

If you want us to continue to remain on Main Street and be their when you need us , then you need to support us! ...😔
