“Sketching the kind of view, you wish you could bottle”

We’ve just come back from a 10 day break & I really needed it! This is not the best of sketches 🤣 but that doesn’t matter does it; it’s about how I felt when sketching. ☺️

I wanted to remember it exactly like this. Turning a fleeting view into something that stays perfectly tuned on my paper, which is now a perfect memory. ☺️

A place on our holiday worth pausing for, and a moment worth sketching. I wanted the moment to stay a little longer; something to take with me.

Here's a little poem to embrace:

Salt on my skin,
sun upon my face,
the sea rolling softly
in its endless embrace.

No plans, no hurry,
just waves drifting by-
a little more freedom,
a little more sky. 🥰

“Say what matters, give her something she can keep”

“It’s a reminder of what she means to you”

"What if a tiny vase, could hold more than flowers"? 🥰

The vase becomes the keepsake and the sentiment and presentation, becomes the emotional value.

In January this year, I created a post to work on a new idea I had in mind, 'a message in a bottle', but time passes so quickly doesn't it! 😱

Anyway, I found time for a coffee in Coco & Bliss this morning before the doctors and reopened my brain cells 🤣 to continue what | started!

So follow along, as I work on some examples and share them with you.

My first thoughts so far for a Mum:
"For the Mum who always puts everyone else first"
For your Sister:
"For the Sister who knows every version of you"
For your best friend:
"For the friend who never needed to be asked"

And somewhere along the way, my mini landscape vase became a very personal gift. Check out the 9th January reel to follow along the idea. Xx

“I gather the forest in broken fragments,
not to preserve it, but to ‘feel’ it again.
Every stain a memory, every tear I make,
a root reaching inward.
The tree did not ask me to paint it;
it simply asked to be covered & remembered”.

It all started with a walk, and, when I left the woods, I realized I hadn’t carried the forest home, the forest had quietly carried me..........😁

Have you ever used wall paper paste as a glue?

I was really impressed how well it works. I added some original French script here too, from physical letters I bought that were written in the 1800’s and I love them.
They add such interest. These come as digital downloads through my linktree if you are interested.

Next, I’m going to apply some serious texture with pit-lime, rust, some echos of the forest floor, and of course, 🐝’s wax. So please follow along ... XX

An antique bottle in morning light,
Waiting for its second life.

Tea-stained tea bags, stamped with blue,
Flowers and blooms in amber hue.

My antique sketchbook (the bottle) never fails me! 😀
I’ve been practicing my burnishing technique to allow for real botanicals to be embedded in wax.

I’ve started with the beautiful forget-me-knot. My hands are turning the ephemeral into something that lasts and can be remembered. I have a number of antique bottles, that I want to transform into something extra special. 🥰

Capturing the finer details of botanicals too on my first and ever favourite painting canvas; my recycled tea bags. I still have hundreds from times past. I’m not just decorating them, I’m giving them new stories, sealing them in wax, and only to be unveiled when there is a need to do so. Tiny treasures that hold motivational quotes and poems……

So you can:
Break the seal,
Break the doubt.
What you seek
Is seeking out.
This wax will crack.
The flame burns low.
Yet still, your fire,
Will always grow.

Little forests, half-remembered, hold the quiet we once were…….

My inspiration from the forest is rooted in quiet observation. On my daily walks I pay attention to the small, easily overlooked corners of the forest floor. The tiny saplings, grasses, and mossy textures that suggest fascination with beginnings: fragile growth, solitude and resilience.

Each mini painting, is created using the same colour palette, allowing me to highlight temperature and mood, yet, they are all slightly different in their own right, almost like a visual journal. Their tiny scale makes them intimate, yet wild with texture. Just how I want them to be …….. ☺️🥰

They will now need time to rest & cure and will be available to purchase at our next open studios from July 4th - 12th. Details of all artists and studios can be found .artists webpage through their profile.

There are 55 studios to visit with 127 artists participating. An art trail not to be missed and hopefully we may see you. I will be at Studio 18 with fellow artists &

No paint, no brush, just light, plants, beautiful company and time….

A wonderful day teaching cyanotypes, full of fun, laughter, serious tuition! 😄 and, of course 🎂! 🤣

All ending in some fantastic results, where we sat and evaluated their masterpieces. It was a great pleasure ladies & gent xx A fantastic day, but only made with you all being there 🥰❤️🥰xx
