Having finally gotten round to start watching the GBSB final, I’m sharing my first commission from starting Cassidy Sewing - while I’m slowly making a name for myself with keepsake bears, I’ve got an extensive history with sewing clothing and accessories - in a hobbyist capacity, despite years of formal education.

So here is my first official work as a professional seamstress when I stared 2 years ago - thank you Wilma Mathieson McDaniel for requesting this bow tie for you son 😊 I’m excited to see where the next years take me 🥰

This lovely shirt has been turned into a huggable keepsake by making it a cushion. By using the sleeves, I place them so you slide your hands in, a cuddle cushion.

This is actually the second cushion I have made to honour the same man as the original cushion I made a few weeks ago inspired a family member to want their own.

This was a much loved father, clear from the way both clients (siblings) had beautiful reverence for the sentimental items.

Schools have only just gone back but availability is now booking up with only a few spaces left in November and a couple of spaces left in December.

In honour of a much missed man, 4 bears, 2 cushions and a framed piece.

Each bear as unique as the siblings who will connect with them made from beloved dad’s clothes, with a few extra special pieces.

Buttons, blazers, braces this dad had such style, I hope you think the bears follow suit (😊) x

I don’t usually post anything other than my own work on here but I think this is important.

GBSB had a fleece up cycle challenge into soft toys, and there’s a few things I’d like you to think about when looking into getting memory bears made.

Firstly they were given 90mins- 90mins is just long enough for me to cut interfacing (essential to longevity- ask me how I know!) and then carefully place on your irreplaceable items.

I spend on average 8-12 hours per bear these days, not because I’m slow, but because that’s how long it takes to get a quality keepsake.

I’m in no way having a go at the “ bee “contestants, I just feel it’s important that clients don’t think that is a realistic time frame- and we just faff about while making items.

Your items are precious, we consider carefully where placements go, which fillings, and sometimes technical engineering goes into your keepsake.

It’s also essential to know that homemade items cannot be sold as toys!! That it is essential to test to UKCA certification standards and that simply cannot be done with used and sentimental fabrics- you have to pull apart and set fire to the item in order to accurately test!

Did you know that elephants are also ready to commission?

This was a doorstop made from upholstery chenille and Linton tweed, however can you think of anything more poetic than a memory elephant? They never forget you know!
