Also referred to as the fire festival, a Gaelic tradition, which is held half way between the spring equinox and the summer solstice, or on 1st of may if in the northern hemisphere.
It represents the peak of spring sn the beginning of summer, and fertility coming this year.

Traditional altars will have red, white and yellow items; candles, crystals, plants and so on, as well as a traditional may pole.

Lighting fires is also a bit part, you can't have a for festival without fire!
Or even serving red and white coloured food.

Claire's creations and I have finalized our logo!!
The Crafty coven is well underway to the final stages of set up with website in the works as we speak!
We are heading to our first market on the 4th June for the Bognor Regis Carnival so if you're local pop down and say hi!
We will be having some limited edition products for the summer solstice that you won't be able to get anywhere but this market!!

This is something I'm really proud of, I'm normally really awful at looking after plants, I consider myself predominantly green witch but my green thumb is lacking to say the least. This year it's my mission to fuel myself from my own garden and create a calming, fun place to be. I am also going to use this to have some fun with my eldest daughter, were starting a plant book with pictures her notes and then harvesting later in the year. This week we will be planting the seeds then hopefully the little shoots can be planted on next few weeks after.
I am not expecting them all to succeed. Heck I'll be happy if I get a single carrot from them. If you put the intent into what you do then you're doing all that really matters at the end of the day. You have good intentions then your heart is in the right place.
So if you, like me, aren't blessed with green thumbs but are giving it your all, then you're already in your way to making the most of your craft..l..

Starting your book of shadows can be really daunting. I found I was petrified and excited all about righting in a book. Bizarre I know. But when you think about it. It's your diary, your recipe book, you instruction manual, your paths, your research, your how to guide, your cheat sheet to witchcraft... or is it?

I was overwhelmed with beautiful leather bound books I wanted to fill with watercolour paintings and research I did in my garden or referencing pages of recipes while I cooked up a feast filled with herbs to my spirits. This did not happen.
Nor do I think it will. The unturned blank pages of my new BOS was my worst fear.

The official definition of a BOS is

Book of Shadows is a book that contains religious texts and instructions that guide the readers to the way of magical rituals that belong to the Neopagan religion of Wicca, and is used in many pagan practices.

And to be honest that's only the definition from history not the evolution! You can fill it with whatever! From clippings of books you've found to a recipe you a really like. You don't have to write in it every day not even everywhere! I know mine went untouched for 4 weeks last summer alone! There are no rules there is no set layout and there isn't any standard!

If you find yourself with writers block a tip I like to use is look at your altar and pick one random thing and just write about it! If it's a herb smudge it into the page, a crystal draw it or take a picture for your book.
But remember there is no is or isn't no dos and don'ts to your book! It's for you at the end of the day!
So have fun with it!.

Ostara Meditation - Meditation is often overlooked as a ritual, but rituals are a meditation in their own right. You can use a guided meditation, simply turn inward and reflect on your intention, or you can even go on a hike as a moving meditation.

Write Your Own Prayer - Pen your own short prayer honoring the blessings of Mother Earth and Spring. Place it on your altar or share it with your sisters. This is the perfect ritual to raise your awareness of the opportunities for new birth and growth the Spring Equinox brings.
