Here is a great blog post about Visual Noise in your home.

This is something I try to keep on top of in my house, I know this impacts me and when I feel a build up of things just being around, I go room by room putting things where they need to go.

Using trays is one tip I would give. In my bathroom I use a tray for bits, it’s then clear that’s where they go and they have a place. My tv remotes have a tray on the coffee table so they go back there when not being used. My keys are in a bowl on the sideboard.

They aren’t hidden away because it’s easier for them to be out when it’s things used a few times a day, it also makes it easier to put them away but this ensures they still feel organised.

What is visual noise and how can you turn down the volume in your home?

I have limited availability in August for virtual decluttering sessions.

- Online sessions can offer more flexibility in terms of time, budget and distance. They work well for clients that are able to complete decluttering and organising tasks alone with the guidance I provide.

- During the call we can discuss your challenges, aims and goals, work out solutions and set out a plan. The client then actions this afterwards or if preferred, we can declutter together on call. I will also help advise where decluttered items could be donated/recycled.

- These sessions are also ideal for accountability in between our in-person meets and for keeping momentum going when in-person sessions aren’t frequent.

Get in touch if you wish to book a session.

Fantastic event this evening Horwich Showcase Supporting Fortalice - great chatting to so many local people.

Some great organising of my junk drawer and a good conversation starter getting people thinking about what people have in theirs.

I had a selection of quick challenges to do at home too that got people thinking about little tasks such as donating used magazines, cancelling subscriptions and starting a donation station.

The event raised over £1000 for Fortalice which is fantastic!

Have you got outgrown school uniform?

There are school uniform drop off points at The Crown, Horwich or with Lend a Hand Help in the Community and in Chorley at any of the Good Food Clubs or at Inspire.

Just catching up after a busy few days…Friday was my last face to face decluttering job until I’m back after the school holidays in September.

It was a fantastic 3rd session with my client decluttering and organising the utility room. We sorted the cupboards to make space for things off the worktops and we let go of anything no longer needed. The worktops went from full to clear which means it looks like a calmer space and is easier to clean.

I came away with 5 reusable bags of items to donate aswell as a bag of school uniform I offered to take to donate to the uniform collection at The Crown pub, Horwich.

We also discussed buying habits to help maintain the organised spaces and keep clutter at bay and we figured out how to store recycling and returnable packaging so that they aren’t adding to the clutter or being forgotten about.

Photo sorting!

This was an organising job for myself. Categorising photos can take a while! And I definitely knew which baby photos were which child 🙈😂

I’ve been through sorting them in to categories that suit me, made decisions on some that can go - old holiday photos with no actual people in them, duplicates or very similar photos of the same person/moment and photos that I don’t recall taking and don’t mean anything to me.

My photos are stored in old VHS boxes with a label on the edge so it can easily be seen when stored away. Personally, I prefer this to albums and I was happy to find a use for the boxes. Do you store your photos in something other than photo albums?

This was a job that I’ve wanted to do for a while so I’m pleased it’s done. Next task, to deal with the school work that’s arrived home with my child today!
