Today is the first Christmas Eve in many years that we haven’t been working in The Secret Garden. While we don’t miss working, we certainly miss all of our friends and customers and the fun and laughter that we had over 13 happy years. May we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Peaceful New Year.

Today we carried out our final 'duties' for The Secret Garden. At around 7:30 a.m. the skip was collected (it's amazing what we had managed to gather over thirteen years!). Then, at around 9:00 a.m. we handed over the keys and finally ended our association with 29, High Street, Borough Green.
We would like to take this final opportunity to thank everyone for your lovely messages, cards, flowers, chocolates, bottles of assorted booze and a wonderful collection made by so many of our lovely friends and customers. We feel truly humbled for the amazing reaction to our retirement (partial in Annettes case) and we genuinely cannot thank everyone enough.
No more rambling on from Russell for now, he has got some serious relaxing to do!!

LAST DAY TODAY!! ALMOST EVERYTHING HALF PRICE!!!
Today is our final day at The Secret Garden. I have already said in previous postings about just how grateful we are for all of the fabulous support and friendship that we have been so generously given by the local community. I would also like to thank all of our fantastic suppliers and their representatives for providing us with our stock over the years, the delivery companies and our lovely postmen! Many thanks also go out to Claire & Rachel for running the Borough Green Pinboard Facebook group which has been very helpful for us in keeping everyone informed about what the shop has been up to.
A final, and very important, thank you must go to my wife, Annette. While I have been the visible, noisy person that people see everyday Annette has been the beating heart of the business. While keeping her other job two days a week she has spent the rest of her time doing all the paperwork, everyday accounts, running the home, bring up our two children and, vital for The Secret Garden, she chose all of our greetings cards which are the most important part of our business! Without her support the shop would have never been as successful as it has been and I would have had to find a proper job!!
So, once again, thank you everyone for everything. We will cherish the memories we have made for ever.

Today is our last Saturday at The Secret Garden. We will be open Monday to Thursday next week when we will then close our door for the final time.

A message from The Secret Garden

As many of you may (or may not) know, we are retiring at the end of March (well Russell is, Annette is going to be carrying on with her other job) so we thought that we’d better say a few words.

It’s been an absolute pleasure to have been part of the Village for the past Thirteen years and we cannot thank everyone enough for all the custom, support and friendship that we have been so grateful to receive. We have been lucky to meet so many lovely people and their families and had a great deal of fun along the way. Thankfully, the business managed to survive the pandemic while so many businesses, both small and large, were sadly not so fortunate. We have the support of this fantastic community to thank for keeping us going both during and after.

Unfortunately, our retirement also means that The Secret Garden will not be carrying on. The building is in the process of being sold and the new owners will be carrying out a complete refurbishment. There will be a shop in our location, but we don’t know what it will be. It is very sad because we would have loved for The Secret Garden to continue, we did have a buyer for the business last year, but circumstances out of our control meant that the sale could not proceed.

It’s not like us to be stuck for words but, on this occasion, there are not enough available to express our feelings. We shall miss The Secret Garden and all our lovely customers every day and we will endeavour to visit the village often – after all Borough Green has some great shops!
