At 'Huckleberry' we are purveyors of beautiful, handwoven baskets woven by a cooperative of weavers from 8 different villages in the Bolgatana region of North Eastern Ghana, the cooperative amongst other benefits like training also ensures the weavers receive a fair price for their beautifully crafted baskets. On average it takes a weaver 3 days to craft one medium sized basket and they can last f

or many years. Each basket is hand woven from tall elephant grass using techniques passed from one generation to the next. Prior to weaving the grass is hand dyed by the weavers using natural dyes. Traditionally, basket weaving was a task completed only by the women, but now men are also learning the craft. Not only are they a simple and beautiful way to add colour and texture to your homes interior, they are also extremely durable and can be used as storage for just about anything around the home as well as being a perfect bag to take shopping.
