Last week I had the great honour of creating a bespoke floral tribute for a special local lady.

This spectacular piece was made to measure, so not an inch of the coffin top was left uncovered. It created a dramatic and uplifting focal point for the service, and I was delighted to hear it referred to as a "showstopper". The wonderful team at Tapper Funeral Service said they'd never seen anything like it before (in a good way!).

A heartfelt thank you to John, Alan and the whole Tapper team for their kind, professional support in preparing for the day, helping me with the logistics and for arranging the extra pallbearers.

It's often said that flowers at a funeral are for those left behind. On what is a difficult day, such a powerful and impactful display can provide a great deal of comfort and strength for those in mourning, and is a way to help celebrate a life well-lived and deeply missed.

This design was also made with care for what comes after. The flowers and foliage used were seasonal and many were locally grown, arranged in a vibrant rather than static way, and the arrangement was built on a biodegradable base with reusable mechanics. Afterwards, many of the flowers were divided up to give to friends and family as an everlasting keepsake.

I've been named a finalist in the Sustainability Hero category for the Southern Sustainability Partnership Awards 🎉

The Gala Night is this Thursday, at St Mary's Stadium in Southampton. It's going to be me and Mum with our glad rags on!

This category recognises individuals driving sustainability impact and leadership, so it's a great honour to make the shortlist.

It's Zero Waste Week, and rather than tell you how green we are, we thought we'd show you the behind the scenes version.

The good bits first. Everything from the plot gets composted and goes straight back into the soil, and the compost heaps have become home to slow worms and have even provided a warm spot for a partridge. We source unwrapped British grown flowers straight from the fields wherever we can or flowers wrapped in paper, as championed for a long time by . Our packaging is made from recycled materials and can be reused, composted or recycled, and we'd love you to keep the recycled-glass jars, then compost your flowers or pop them in the green bin once they're past their best. Some of our customers enjoy photographing, painting, drying and pressing the flowers so they last even longer!

But there's always more to do. As a family, we recycle everything we can but we still waste too much food and still pretty much fill a general waste bin every fortnight.

UK households throw away 4.4 million tonnes of edible food a year and we are probably wasting around £1000 a year on throwing food away.

So my pledge for Zero Waste Week is to make an 'eat first' shelf in the fridge, at eye level, so nothing gets lost at the back.

Here's a quick snapshot of some of the things we've been up to this month. A quick trip up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), bespoke tributes using British orchids, a peacock butterfly on the zinnias and lots of sea dips!

A day or so after the first proper rain for months and already the New Forest seems to look a little less parched. In these drought conditions, the hardest thing for wildlife is finding water, and I've been leaving out shallow water trays alongside our bird bath and wildlife pond. I was pleased to spot hedgehog s**t near the pond for the first time, so hopefully we've done our bit to help the local wildlife through this summer.

Gold at the ! What a thrill. This was our first time exhibiting, and our first time entering any kind of judged competition at all. Mum and I are so proud to have our growing and flower arranging recognised this way, judged to the RHS's national standards. It's fair to say we were a little under-prepared for the set up, but we've learnt a lot and already have lots of ideas for next year.

This week's posy includes the happiness of Lincolnshire sunflowers alongside some of the more hardy stems we're growing in our New Forest plot this week, such as eryngium, statis, sedum, tanacetum and aster. It's a hot one this week. Keep cool everyone! 😎🌻
