Another lovely weekend in the bookshop, lots of great customers again and even a Member of Parliament popped in!

I’ve had lots of messages since last week about joining our book club. Our next Book Club will be Thursday 1st October at Calabrese Kitchen where we will be discussing Mrs Dalloway. The first one was really lovely and very popular, however we do have some limited spaces left and you can book via the link at the bottom of this status.

There is a hope you manage to read the book before you attend, and the shop will have a few reasonably priced copies from next Friday if anybody needs one.

The copy I’m reading contains one of my favourite things about second hand books, a dedication!

‘Stream of Consciousness-ness to the max! Hope you enjoy this… Happy New Year, lots of love Jan (?) xx’

How cute, I hope that both Jan and the Book’s original recipient are happy and well. As I hope you are too!

Thanks for all the support as always, only in next Friday 10am -4pm hope to see you there!

Having a great time on the Isle of Skye, rocking the tote bag and making a sizeable dent in The Instrumentalist the first book of our book club.

For those who have managed to get a space on it, there’s a hope that you’ll have finished the book, but no stress if you don’t manage it we’ll try and avoid spoilers!

Looking forward to see you in a week’s time, until then enjoy what’s left of the summer!

Reminder the shop isn’t back until September, but if you are missing your fill of small cute spaces with second hand books, I recommend heading over to Knoll Beach Bookshop, it’s so lovely. I would bring cash so you can drop the money in the honesty box!

It isn’t too far away and you can have a nice day out too on the gorgeous beach. I went there recently for the first time and picked up a nice copy of Dubliners by James Joyce!

Our competition is still running too, so check out our previous posts if you want to enter!

Very excited to see those who managed to sign up in September.

You’ve been asking and we’ve delivered

We’re teaming up with our fantastic friends at Calabrese Kitchen to bring you a Calabrese x Back Alley Book Club.

Hosted by Calabrese in their gorgeous space we will be meeting the first Thursday of each month to discuss a set book.

Starting on September 3rd, 6:30pm -8pm, where we’ll be discussing The Instrumentalist, it’s a highly recommended historical fiction, set in Venice giving it that Italian connection which is a lovely way to start our collaboration. I can’t wait to read it myself.

We expecting it to be popular and there’s limited spaces available. You can sign up on a first come first serve basis below. 👇

See you in September!

500 BOOKS SOLD 🥳🥳🥳

Today we reached a big milestone with our 500th book being sold, bought by two of our lovely customers on their 2nd visit to the shop. To commentate I gifted them a tote bag, which they were very happy with!

And that was at the beginning of a gorgeous few hours with so many nice customers. Including a group of Spanish students in on an exchange from different parts of Galicia a region in the North of Spain which I adore, so it was nice chatting to them and they bought loads, and the day ended meeting Tommy and Linda probably two of the most stylish customers I’ve had in the shop.

So I couldn’t be happier with how today went, and I’m kind of sad that it’s my last day for a few weeks. But I’ll be back at the start of September.

We have a big announcement coming next week so watch this space. And I will be posting recommendations of nice places round town to keep you occupied. I wouldn’t leave you in the lurch.

Hope you have a wonderful rest of August and see you again in September x

Another fantastic day in the shop, so many books sold again, lots of chatty customers and plenty of interest in Lisa Moro’s new exhibition The Shopkeepers. Which really gave the end of the day a buzz.

Thanks so much for coming down, and involving us in your project.

Tomorrow is our last day for a while as I’m going away for a few weeks, we’ll be open from 11am. Hope to see you there 😇

This has been the busiest weekend since our opening weekend.

Just under 100 customers through the door, 63 books sold, tote bags selling like hotcakes, a few donations and so many lovely conversations.

I appreciate I say it a lot, and I will stop saying it when it stops being true, but you guys are really the best. Thank you for all the support, custom and compliments. They all mean the world. Back next weekend ♥️
