Hello everyone.
You probably know that I have now moved quite a way away and handed in my notice to the shop in May.
We will be closing very shortly.
Way back in 2009, as my online business grew and I kept making so many trips to the post office in Eton, I decided to open the shop which initially, I thought would be more of a warehouse than a shop - a place to store and process our online orders. That has always been in essence what it is.
I have been there for 10 years and I have really enjoyed being there. I have met some wonderful people and the royal weddings and the Olympic rowing at Dorney are particular highlights.
I’m now ‘retired’ from the business - but I do love Eton.
I have seen it change over the years especially as boutique businesses closed and more shops became residential. Inevitably, a residential conversion is going to be more attractive to landlords than a small business - my own shop included.
This along with the ever increasing power of Amazon (from which we benefit hugely) does mean the High Street as we know won’t ever be the same as it was. However, there are still some areas which thrive and as always, I would encourage everyone to shop local and support local business - which includes of course, online ones.
It has to be said though that Amazon Prime has taken over the world and next day delivery is now something we all expect. It is just so convenient. And Amazon make it so easy for sellers to sell this way. A shop as such, is fairly pointless if you are retailing brands as we do.
I have now three gorgeous spaniels including new baby Coco and I’m very much looking forward to a somewhat different pace of life 🙂.
