Lovely carved items from the felled and rescued Sycamore tree next to the Brontë parsonage https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.986363988185978&type=3
This album documents the story of a sycamore tree that was felled at the Kirk Yard, next to the Brontë parsonage in 2018. i was kindly given permission from the local conservation team to rescue the wood to my workshop where it has been drying ever since. in 2020 i began making carvings from the wood which has been a constant discovery of some of the most amazing grains and spaltings.
This is such a wonderful project to work on and i feel very fortunate to be able to share custodianship of these little pieces of history.
11-12-21 - 'Whatever our souls are made of'
This line from Emily's Wuthering Heights has been a developing theme in this project, relevant as both a description of carvings made from the same piece of tree but also the complimentary use of local resources in their creation. Ochre pigment made from bog iron collected at Benty hole next to Top Withens, homemade beeswax from local raw wax collected at local heather moorland hives along physically creating these pieces here on the edge of moor ( sometimes on the moor !) gives it soul.
