At the Global Educational Trust, we believe that the ability to read is the cornerstone of educational success and a love of reading will last a lifetime yet almost 1 billion people entered the 21st Century unable to read a book or sign their own name. In the UK:
• 1 in 6 adults have issues with literacy
• 1 in 3 parents cannot read to their children.
• 3.87 million children do not own a single book
• 4 million children live in poverty

At the Global Educational Trust, we believe that education and literacy skills help individuals lead a happy and successful life, and needless to say, provide the opportunity for people to become leaders, pioneers, and visionaries which is ultimately beneficial to us all. We aim to make reading free and available to all by distributing FREE Books into society. As a registered charity we rely on the kindness and generosity of people like you. Hi guys, so today was our official last working day at the Bradford branch of Global Educational Trust, sadly the bookshop closed a couple weeks before…we are gutted and hope to still find new premises within Bradford, we are still looking every single day and doing all we can….until then please support our other branches, nearest to us currently is in Dewsbury prince of wales shopping centre, and Huddersfield which is located in the pack horse. We are soon to be opening our new shop in Selby but appreciate it is a distance (it is for us too)and travel isn’t possible for some of our regulars- both customers and volunteers alike . We are sorry for that. Again, thankyou so very much for your continued support and custom toward the charity- the past few years, it really has become a community as opposed to just a shop(s) and we are so grateful to have had you ❤️ we hope you will continue to support us moreso if we do manage to get shop(s) back in the town centre…but for now?!?! Watch this space and any information comes our way we will announce here or directly if I have your number/you have mine. Until then?! Onward and upward in helping the charity evolve further,

Come grab your bargains at the charity shop while you can- we have only one week left- we close Saturday 13th June 2026, so next Saturday. We are still giving away books and are rotating them on a daily basis- Soon as they are coming in we are getting them out and gone- there’s a decent selection of both fiction and non fiction that will be available to you until this time next week. Both floors merged into one now so you will find small furniture and bric a brac along with other items without having to do the stairs…bonus eh?! Clothing, handbags, shoes now all half price with further reductions across many other items in the shop- cheers. Laura and John ❤️😘

Hi guys, this is not the announcement I wanted to make but unfortunately it has to be done.

As many of you know (from visiting in store) it comes with great sadness to say the Bradford branch of GET free books and the charity shop are closing down. This is not our decision, both shops have been a great success for 6+ years with me running the book shop for 2 1/2 and John manager of the charity shop for nearly 5. This is due to the planned demolition of Kirgate market/shopping centre 😔.

I will be closing the bookshop officially this coming Monday 11th may as we have to leave by the 18th June. Whilst this may appear premature, we do have two shops to pack and relocate. Unfortunately we currently don’t have anywhere to go. So whilst we remain positive and hopeful to find somewhere, as of right now it’s highly unlikely we will before our leaving date. As and when we are able to secure a new shop(s) (either one big enough to merge like previous premises or two separate) we hope to find somewhere in Bradford; but again we may end up having to move out of town.

Our nearest branch of the book shop is Dewsbury or Huddersfield, we have branches further afield. However, Bradford holds the only charity shop currently- in the near future we hope to evolve and have more branches of the charity shop. To compensate the book shops early closure, we aim to set up a section of the downstairs of the charity shop in which there will be a small selection of fiction and non fiction books you can still have access to. Whilst not ideal, it’s the best we can offer given the circumstance.

We’ve decided to hold a flash sale from this coming Monday (I will do another post explaining this and update as the week goes on) but the ground floor is going to be everything there half price meaning you get some right bargains- who doesn’t love a bargain?!?! When it’s gone it’s gone so don’t miss out 😊😊

We want to express our gratitude and appreciation to all customers for your custom, but also to both past and present volunteers. Offering your time, efforts and hard work to volunteer and support a charity we hold dear to our hearts, we are humbled and appreciate every single one of you no matter how big or small a role you played. We wouldn’t have got this far without you, so thankyou we are eternally grateful! 😊❤️

As soon as we have news regarding a new shop(s) I will be posting on here, I will keep you updated as and when we know. Feel free to contact me on here or by email [email protected] if anyone requires references or anything further I can help with- please be reassured and a little patient with us as we are trying everything we can to get somewhere- these things take time and it is a lengthy process unfortunately, I’m sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused anyone.

Super exciting news for the GET free bookshop-

16th August (Saturday) between 11.30 and 13.30 we have a meet and greet book signing from our very own Bradford lad, Actor and Author Jason Croot.

We are hosting him as he comes to promote his new book- ‘Bradford, eh?!’ and we are honoured he has picked us and our charity in order to do this. Let’s make it a day to remember as he launches his new book and allows us to be a part of this journey of his.

So, if you can, come down and have a chinwag with Jason (also goes by Jay) and get your signed copy of his new book for absolutely free (no terms or conditions applied). Who doesn’t love a chat and a freebie from a famous bradfordian?!

Jason we can’t wait to meet you and share this experience with you. So thankyou! I will be posting a blurb about the book and a couple other things prior to the event in the upcoming days..

Thankyou for all the continued support (customers and volunteers both past and present) for the charity and helping us to keep it afloat…we are proud of the charity as well as our shop(s) and cannot do it without this and you.

Quick recap if you are new viewing this and wondering who we are/what we do;
we are a bookshop and charity that gives away books for free, to encourage education and people to read-it’s a dying fashion these days. We have 25 bookshops currently spread around the UK and two charity shops, the one in Bradford and one in south wales. Our one rule?! 3 books, for free, per person per day. You don’t have to return them but can if you wish, and if you have any around your home collecting dust and you want to rehome them without chucking them (crying shame to) please bring them to the shop (darley street opposite the new darley street market that’s just opened) or if unable to get them there yourself speak to me direct and I will arrange for us to come collect from you 😀.
If you are looking for work experience and would like to volunteer please call into the shop and speak to me- I will give you an application form to fill in, or you can apply online. It is a voluntary role and therefore up to you how many hours you wish to work, just liaise and communicate with me so I know who is in when 😀. We are a warm, friendly team with a family like vibe and will accomodate your needs and support you in any way you require. We promote equal opportunities and are a safe space as well as accepting of any and everyone that walks through our door (for example if you have physical/learning/mental/additional needs,LGBT+)
We accept financial donations in our donation bucket as well as books (the charity shop itself accepts donations of any kind)

Just a few of our bits and pieces we currently have in at the charity shop- not to mention lots of clothing selling so cheap- (all clothing half price downstairs) including named brands such as emporio Armani and Gucci, handbags, shoes, wool/craft supplies, toys, animal supplies, bric a brac and media galore, not to mention pin badges (range from LGBT+, novelty cuties, music related including Pink Floyd, Harry Potter and more, oh and little LEGO figures and Minecraft ones for just £1 each- absolute bargain! I will take a pic and post on here Friday coming, we run purely on donations so if you have any at all please pop into the shop on Darley street Bradford town centre (opposite darley street market)or if you cannot get them to us and wish to contact me direct on here and we will arrange to collect from you.
Thankyou for the continued support to the charity itself but for helping us to keep running, that’s both the free book shop and the charity shop itself- we cannot do it without your support and appreciate each and every one of you no matter your role, be it customer, volunteer (past or present) donor of items etc
Please get the word out there for us too either by mouth or on here that we do exist and if you haven’t visited yet please do, we are a warm friendly lot guaranteed to give you a laugh and positive experience, we are incredibly animal friendly and your furry friends are alls welcome to visit as you are
