I’ve been a bit quiet lately, because I have finally got a studio. I’ve been building my loom, moving lots of yarn, building shelves and learning new ways of working. It’s scary, but I’m loving every minute of being in a mill on the edge of my village.

A time for evaluation, research, photography and recharging the store of ideas, an essential part of my process, generating cherished moments with my boys that find their way into my work.

Finally finished the first two of my spring border wraps. They both have homes so I’ll probably weave a batch of them on my big loom. Come see them and other new pieces tomorrow, 10-4pm in St John’s church. It will be a beautiful day.

It’s Day 1 of and it’s introduction time:
I’m Nell, a weaver in the sticks in the Peak District. I’ve been weaving for 7 years, the last two, full time. I specialise in zero waste, natural fibres, most of which are mill end, leftovers from mechanised textile production. My pieces are my memories, special places, moments in time, tiny snapshots of landscape and sea, the North Yorkshire coast and the peaks of my home.
My work is currently showcased and in Field to Fashion exhibition. And on Saturday I’ll be at church of St John with a collection ion of my latest work.

The first one has found a home already so taking it off early. It will be a busy week weaving another in time for my first in person show of the year at the gorgeous church of St John Tideswell. I love my very local show, easing me into a very busy season.
