Bothy Bites are named after the mountain shelters dotted across the hills around Braemar, somewhere to stop and get out of the weather. Milk chocolate wrapped round hazelnuts, almonds, raisins, brown puffed rice, gluten free oats and a touch of lemon, made by hand in our workshop. Small enough for a pocket, and good for taking on a walk, or just keeping handy at home.

Gianduja is a hazelnut and chocolate paste that started life in Turin, created when cocoa supplies ran short and hazelnuts helped stretch what chocolate they had.
We smoke the hazelnuts over pine needles before they go in, which gives it a flavour you won't find in the classic version.
It's also Dave's favourite chocolate we make... You may well wonder how many make it from the kitchen to the shop...

Getting feedback like this never really gets old.

A lot of time is spent choosing a particular chocolate to balance flavours. That way you can taste the chocolate alongside our carefully selected ingredients, in this case Bowmore Whisky.

The Islay Whisky single origin chocolate bar has built itself a loyal following already. Some of you love a boozy chocolate and if you do this is a great one to try!

Meet Dave, our Chocolatier, who alongside Jo, is behind the chocolate making here at Braemar Chocolate Shop.

From developing new truffle flavours to experimenting with local ingredients, a lot of what we do starts with Dave in the kitchen with an idea and a lot of melted chocolate.

Many of our chocolates are inspired by Scotland, from local whisky and honey to flavours linked to the landscapes, seasons and stories around Braemar and beyond.

This year also marks 10 years of chocolate making, which feels pretty special.

If you’ve visited the shop, there’s a good chance Dave has either handed you a chocolate to try, been making caramel in the background, or appeared from the kitchen covered in cocoa powder (a totally normal day in the chocolate shop!)...

Our Summer Chocolate Box is still here.

Nine handmade chocolates, chosen for their summer yumminess.

Raspberry praline, strawberry and black pepper vinegar praline, lemon posset praline, fresh mint and juniper praline and passionfruit and heather honey praline, all in their lovely box finished with yellow twine and our tag.

Light, fruity and a little bit special. A lovely thing to treat yourself to, or to give to someone who deserves a little taste of the Scottish summer!

Find it in the shop or order online.

Our Blueberry & Vanilla Praline was inspired by the forests around Braemar, where wild blaeberries grow in abundance through the summer months.

Blaeberries are the smaller, sweeter Scottish cousins of the blueberry, and if you’ve ever been out walking in the Highlands during the season, you’ll probably know the sight of entire forest floors covered in them.

We did briefly consider using local blaeberries in this chocolate. They’re absolutely delicious. But they’re also an important food source for the local wildlife, so we decided to leave them where they belong and instead use carefully sourced blueberries to create the praline.

The result is a smooth, fruity chocolate with gentle vanilla notes and just enough sharpness from the berries to balance the richness.

A good one for people who normally lean towards caramel or classic flavours but fancy trying something a little different.

It's been a busy summer, followed by a busy Braemar Gathering! Dave was on display in all his finery and the launch of the Paul Smith Loves Barbour collaboration at the weekend has tipped us over the edge!

We had a blast designing chocolates for that incredible collab (more to follow on this!!!) - we've got loads to tell you about but, firstly, we needed to let you know that the online shop is closed until the 2nd of October when we'll be back, refreshed, replenished and raring to go.

Off to walk the dogs now and breathe in some of that fresh Braemar air...
