Good evening all,
As you may have all seen how much of an increase our family food shop has become in the last year
As a business we have tried to keep our prices as low as possible while keeping the same quality. It's not been the best business model as our accountants will tell you🤣🤣🤣🤣
This week we have learnt of a ridiculously high rise in beef and chicken prices. Chicken is just a bird flu pandemic in Europe increased global chicken prices, which expected to settle in the coming months and only temporary so expect any orice rise to be short lived.
Beef on the other hand is a serious concern.
Over the last 4yrs I have seen beef prices more than double, mostly because of less British beef being produced by 5% yearly. (Not an accurate figure but my math says 20% in 4 yrs).
It's not my place to say why, but it's certainly not down the farmers!
Demand is projected to increase by 1% this year. Supply of UK beef is short and demand is high.
Not to mention the cost of labour, feed and energy rises haven't helped.
This has created serious increase in price to suppliers and butchers across the country.
As an example my beef costs to make mince have risen 25% since xmas, steak meat about 15%.
I have been quoted by a good quality cheap supplier that cost to make 5% fat mince will increase 28% in one week.
Obviously this affects bbq packs, an bbq burger deals etc
This is madness but I wished to fore warn you that I will have no choice to put beef prices up from this week. We will only increase as it increases for us but it will effect most beef products within the next few weeks/ months.
Please understand if we could absorb the cost even temporarily we would but this is too much, likely also to be permanent given the market trend.
The ridiculous thing is this will end up butchers that want to support British meats will be forced to buy good quality meats that travel half way round the world. In the process losing great British farms and destroying local/national beef production even further.
We do not ever want to price people from using local (although rest assured even though it will be less noticeable short term this, will have a knock on effect in supermarkets in the coming months when they can no longer absorb the cost).
I hope this all meets you with the knowledge that we are small family business trying our best to provide an income for our boys while trying to provide a service to our local high street.
Please come support us, we will do our best and listen to feedback as to what our customers want going forward.
We provided a link but just one of many that explain why this is happening, but feel free to do your own research to read into it more
All our love
Adam and Sara
