“After 10 sessions with the Akios Hellrazor Evo 450TT, I think it’s time to give my honest thoughts.

I was lucky enough to receive this rod as an early Father’s Day present from my daughters on 16th June, and it hasn’t missed a session since. Ten trips later, it’s handled everything I’ve thrown at it.

Having owned the Akios Hellrazor Procast SS42, the first thing I noticed was how much more solid and confidence-inspiring the Evo feels. It’s definitely sturdier than its predecessor, yet it still keeps that lightweight continental feel that makes it such a pleasure to fish with.

The 30-ton high modulus carbon blank, strengthened with the carbon overlay Hex Mesh, has impressed me from day one. I’ve landed double-figure smoothhounds on it without the rod ever feeling like it was struggling. It has loads of power in reserve while staying light, balanced and comfortable to use.

The new thinner glass tip is another brilliant improvement. Whether you’re lure fishing for mackerel or targeting smaller species like tope pups, flatties, or anything requiring sensitive bite detection, it performs exactly as you’d hope. It picks up the shyest of bites, but when a decent fish takes over, the blank has all the backbone you need.

I also really like the finer details. The rubber butt cap is a simple addition but makes a real difference, protecting the rod from knocks and wear, and after ten sessions mine still looks almost new. The Japanese shrink-wrap joint works exactly as intended too, holding both sections firmly together during the session while making them easy to separate afterwards.

For me, this is a brilliant return for the Hellrazor name. If you’re thinking about trying a lightweight continental-style rod but don’t want to sacrifice strength or confidence when a big fish turns up, I’d definitely recommend giving the Hellrazor Evo 450TT a look. It genuinely feels stronger, more refined and more capable than the original.

This rod has already proven exactly what it’s capable of, and I can’t wait to see what the next 10 sessions bring 🤘
