Meet the team:
Continuing our introductions.
Jon.
I started cycling in 1986 after a rugby injury and have never looked back. Over the years, the bike has become my safe place—a source of freedom, clarity and enjoyment.
Before joining the cycling industry, my work took me to many different places. Local bike shops provided an invaluable way to meet people and discover the best places to ride. This was, of course, long before the internet and cycling apps could plan a route at the touch of a button.
During the 1990s and early 2000s, I raced cross-country and downhill mountain bikes at a competitive level, while road cycling was primarily about distance and endurance. Two outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease brought mountain-bike racing to a halt, and the road bike gradually took over.
I also spent several years competing in time trials. As a larger rider, I was often at a disadvantage in group racing, so competing against the clock—and against myself—made perfect sense.
These days, gravel riding ticks almost every box for me. It offers variety, adventure and the freedom to clear my mind while I ride. My colleagues joke that I have a museum of bikes rather than being an active cyclist, but I still get out whenever I can and always enjoy it.
I have long been fascinated by the variety of positions people adopt on a bike. Having never experienced significant comfort issues myself, I had not initially appreciated how many riders struggle with them. That curiosity led me to discover bike fitting in 2015.
After completing initial training and making a significant investment in developing my career within the cycling industry, I joined CycleFit in 2016. That was where my education truly accelerated, particularly in postural analysis and the small, precise adjustments that can make a meaningful difference to a rider’s comfort and performance.
Towards the end of 2017, I moved to Trek, focusing on both bike fitting and sales. Helping people feel more confident and positive about their riding—and offering practical advice to improve their comfort and position—remains the most rewarding part of what I do.
