What a comeback for the Edzell Jumble Sale!
There hasn’t been a jumble sale in Edzell for many, many years, so bringing it back was always going to be a huge learning curve for us all but wow, what a response from the community 💕
I also purposely chose to hold the event on a Saturday so that all of Edzell’s lovely small businesses were open too. With so many people travelling into the village, we really hoped the extra footfall would also help support local businesses financially throughout the day.
I honestly don’t think words can fully express how grateful we are to everyone who helped make the return of the jumble sale such an incredible success.
From people letting me squirrel donations away in their garages for months, to the amazing helpers who stepped in to organise the chaos when organisation definitely isn’t my strong point 😂 — sorting clothes into ladies, gents and kids, separating shoes and bags, boxing up tombola items, wrapping breakables and even opening up their homes for extra storage… this event became a true community effort from start to finish.
Before we even began unboxing everything at the hall, one amazing scouting leader took home every single bag of ladies clothes to check through for stains or holes, sort everything into sizes and prepare them for sale. The amount of time, care and effort people gave behind the scenes was just incredible.
Then when we all stood looking completely overwhelmed setting up the hall, volunteers jumped in box by box, table by table, helping organise every area alongside scouting leaders and parents. It honestly turned into such a lovely team effort.
We also had volunteers, including myself, with no children in the scouting groups, who still helped simply because they wanted to help bring this event back to the village. That really says everything about the community spirit in Edzell 💕
And of course, none of this would have been possible without YOU donating such lovely, high quality items. The generosity was unbelievable and it’s what made the sale so successful. People went away with bags full of amazing bargains, and that was only possible because of the kindness of everyone who donated.
The turnout completely blew us away too — with the queue stretching onto Ramsay Street before we even opened! We absolutely understand that the hall became very busy and cramped at times, and we truly appreciate everyone’s patience. We counted approximately 500 adults plus children attended our event!
This was a huge learning curve for all of us, and we’re already discussing ways to improve the space, flow and crowd management for next year… because yes, the Edzell Jumble Sale is officially back on the map as an annual event 🎉
And just a reminder of the main reason behind all of this — this was an amazing fundraising event for 55th Scouting. Every donation, purchase, raffle ticket and helping hand has helped support the group, and we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better community to get behind it 💚
To every single volunteer, donor, supporter, buyer and person who came through the doors — THANK YOU. We are beyond grateful. It would not have been the success it was without every extra pair of hands and every act of kindness along the way.
Special mention as well to Hunter Photography & thank you to the volunteers who shared photos from the day 📸
Also to NP Marketing for created the wonderful jumble sale poster.
