Running an independent pub has never been easy, but right now it’s one of the toughest times our industry has faced.
Like many independent hospitality businesses, we don’t have a head office, shareholders or huge marketing budgets. It’s just us, our team, and the people who choose to walk through our doors.
Over the years, Hollie and I have always tried to give back where we can. Whether it’s supporting local charities, donating raffle prizes, helping people through difficult times, or backing community events, we’ve always believed that if you’re lucky enough to have a business, you should use it to help others too.
We’re also incredibly proud of the opportunities we’ve been able to create. Over the years we’ve employed so many local people, giving many of them their very first job, helping them build confidence, gain experience and develop skills they’ll carry with them for life. For us, that’s always been just as important as serving great food and drink.
The truth is, those independent businesses that quietly support their communities can only keep doing that if their communities support them in return.
This isn’t a plea for sympathy, it’s simply a reminder that every time you choose to eat, drink or spend with an independent business, you’re investing in real people, local jobs, and businesses that genuinely care about the area they’re part of.
So next time you’re deciding where to go for a drink, a meal or a catch-up with friends, we’d love you to think of the independents. Not just us, but all the cafés, pubs, restaurants and small businesses that make our towns worth visiting.
Thank you to everyone who already supports us.
We never take it for granted that you choose us 🩶
