Father & son Adrian and Harry who will be walking approximately 250km in six consecutive days to raise awareness of the incredible care that Marie Curie provides patients and their families during what a very difficult & challenging time.
Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end-of-life charity. They provide expert palliative care & support to people with any terminal illnesses, their families, friends, & carers. It is a person-centred care, focusing on dignity and choice. Whatever the illness, wherever you are, Marie Curie is with you to the end.
Our Wife & Mummy Claire had a brave fight with Cancer, however in February 2026 she became a resident of the Penarth Hospice in South Wales. Claire was a strong, gentle & beautiful person who was fiercely passionate about fighting for what is right, everyone who met Claire could not help but love her, she had time for everyone and would always help those who needed it.
Claire was the most natural wife & mummy we could ever had wished for. Despite being poorly, she still put everyone else's needs before her. The care, kindness & support provided by Marie Curie allowed her to maintain her sense of humour, her personality & most importantly her dignity.
Those 3 weeks were emotionally challenging for us all, but every element of the hospice and staff could not do enough for her & us, they made her as comfortable as possible, which gave us a final opportunity as a family to spend cherished moments & tell each other how much we love each other.
Sadly, Claire passed away peacefully in her sleep on 2nd March 2026. Her passing triggered Claire's final act of selflessness, despite being in tremendous pain, she bought personalised & bespoke gifts for her family, poems and messages giving us support for our grief and loss.
Nothing will ever replace our special wife & mummy, she was the glue that held us together, the ever-present heart and warmth of our family.
On Monday 17th August, Harry and I will set off from Gloucester near our first family home where we will walk through the Forest of Dean, to Monmouth, Abergavenny, Brecon, Pen-y-fan, Merthyr Tydfil down the Taff Trail to Cardiff, onto the Marie Curie Hospice in Penarth before finishing at our family home in St Brides Major.
Averaging 40km per day - just shy of a Marathon. Carrying our equipment & camping along the route. This journey will provide Harry and I the perfect opportunity to reflect on our amazing life with Claire & continue to build our strong father & son bond. 99% of this journey will be just the two of us, but we welcome people to join us for certain points.
We would like to do this challenge in aid of Marie Curie. £17 could fund a Support Line call or webchat, £207 could provide care overnight in someone’s home, £530 could fund support for a family for a year through the companion service, or £1,200 could help fund heating in a Marie Curie Hospice for 10 days. However, it costs approximately £9300 a day to run the Cardiff and Vale Hospice which is why we have made it our goal to raise enough money to fund one day of care at the Hospice.
The timing of this challenge is significant as Thursday 20th August would have been Claire's 40th Birthday. We are aiming to reach Pen-y-fan around 10am on 20th August for a climb in celebration for Claire’s birthday. Claire loved the colour pink and so we want to invite everyone to climb Pen-y-Fan with us wearing pink. Help us for the day.
We would love you to join us:
Mon 17th Aug, 9am, Naas Lane Park, Quedgeley Gloucester. Please join for an approximate 10km walk to Over Farm Shop, Gloucester as we start our journey.
Thur 20th Aug, 10am, Pen-y-fan, Brecon Beacons. Join us for a mountain climb to
Sat 22nd Aug, 10am, Cardiff Bay Barrage. We will walk approximately 2km to Marie Curie Hospice & hope to arrive at the Sycamore Tree Pub in Colwinston by 4pm and then onto our finishing point of St Brides
Any donation would be gratefully received
