Yesterday, Aug 22nd, this little record shop turned 2 years old! Time flies doesn't it!
As I sit in the garden of .bridgnorth waiting for a yummy roast dinner I thought it would be a good time to reflect and express some gratitude.
Owning a record shop has been something I've always wanted to do since my first job in Our Price and whilst taking a leap like that is always daunting, it's been so rewarding and made easier by the people who supported me when I was getting going. The people who offered up collections, offered help, support and gave encouragement. Special hugs go to Mike in Canada for trusting me in running his shop, being my mentor (I know he's gonna laugh at that!) and a true friend, calling me out and having my back, giving advice on the do's and dont's of running a business and generally giving me the confidence that I can do this myself. Huge thanks to my new customers and all the regulars. I love seeing you and having the chats and a bit of banter. And of course me old mumsy who as always supported me and my bonkers decisions. β€οΈ
For me, music isn't about the solitary click of a button to receive binary information thru some tiny speaker. It's a human connection, it's meant to be shared and played loud sometimes. We're meant to say "f**k yeah" when a riff or a beat drops. We're all meant to dance. It's one of the common connections between all of us that keeps us together, keeps us grounded and keeps us going. And that, more than ever, is so important.
I'll be honest, returning to the UK after 15 years away has been a terrible struggle at times, and still has its moments but it's nice to be back and now call Bridgnorth a home and to have made some solid friends all thanks to this little shop.
I'll leave it there. I'm grateful and looking forward to the future.
Cheers from me and my medieval Knight friend here and onwards and upwards innit. π
(p.s by the time I finished writing this I've devoured a bloomin' lovely roast din dins! Highly recommend the scran at The Old Castle. Plus they have Enville on cask. Ding d**g!)
