Since his death in 1981, ceramics by Hans Coper have become highly sought after. His works appear contemporary and yet retain a humility and discipline which link him to earlier sculptural traditions. This is the first US edition of the book written by Tony Birks and published by Harper & Row, New York in 1983. Now available on our website.

We currently have in stock this wonderful hard to find monograph on the life and work of the influential Scottish artist Joan Eardley (1921-1963), written by Christopher Andreae and published by Lund Humphries in association with The Scottish Gallery and The Portland Gallery in 2013. Eardley’s paintings and drawings reflect urban and rural Scotland in her unique expressive visual language and this highly illustrated survey does justice to the range, scale and power of her work.

An explosion of colour from the wisteria sinensis in our garden at home this morning! Last year the buds got badly frosted and nibbled by pigeons so it feels like has put all the saved up energy into this years effort, and the scent is divine….

We visited the Paule Vezelay exhibition this week and were captivated by her elegant draughtsmanship and sense of colour and form. The exhibition is on until 27 April and definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. Lund Humphries have just published a book about her life and work, edited by Simon Grant, which accompanies the exhibition.

Benton End house and gardens in Hadleigh, Suffolk is the former home of celebrated artist and gardener Sir Cedric Morris and artist Arthur Lett-Haines. Together they ran the East Anglian School of Painting and Drawing - a sanctuary for a diverse range of influential artists, writers, musicians, and botanists of the 20th century. Lucian Freud and Maggi Hambling were among their students. Benton End is currently in the process of being revived and restored in a joint collaboration between the Garden Museum and the Pinchbeck Charitable Trust. As well as a thorough introduction setting the scene, this book contains recollections from several former students and associates including Beth Chatto, Peter Wakefield and Maggi Hambling. Quite hard to find, we currently have a fine copy in stock at £ 75.
