Reawakening.
As dormant months draw to a close and the earth begins to reawaken, the soil, trees, plants all starting to stir, we reach half way between winter solstice and the Spring equinox.
Daylight hours are getting longer, skeletal trees show signs of life, herbaceous perennials peep up through the soil, the birds chorus is just a little louder, Spring is whispering to us.
An ancient Celts holiday Imbolc, celebrates this time of transition, starting at sundown yesterday rejoicing with fire, fire symbolising the warmth and light to come.
Regardless of beliefs, this is a celebration as a gardener I feel is rather beautiful. To celebrate the changes in seasons, to take a moment to acknowledge and respect, say a gentle goodbye to the dormant months as we move towards spring and new beginnings.
