Sometimes it’s the little workshop tweaks that make the biggest difference.
I’ve been using the compostable Biolit double brick trays with Renewal™ Floral Foam, and because each tray holds two fully soaked bricks (around 4 litres of water) before any flowers are added, they can become surprisingly heavy.
It was actually a conversation with one of our funeral directors that prompted this idea. They’re really supportive of our move towards more sustainable mechanics but wanted to be sure the trays were as robust as possible when carrying larger tributes.
I’ve never had a tray fail, but it made me think about how they’re handled in the real world. So my solution is really simple – I place two wooden stakes in the base of the tray, run another stake through both bricks, then secure everything to the tray with biodegradable twine. It creates one solid unit that’s much more rigid and gives everyone confidence when lifting and carrying the tribute.
One of the things I enjoy about working with sustainable products is finding simple ways to adapt them to everyday floristry. Sharing ideas like this helps all of us make the transition a little easier.
