This week’s Super Seconds Festival prompt is What’s on my wish list? And, as always, there are far too many lovely things to choose from!

At number one is a gorgeous mug from Rob & Debbie Rivett — definitely one I’ve had my eye on. Rob and Debbie Rivett

I also absolutely love Anna Figgins’ beautiful leatherwork. Anna and I actually went to Loughborough university together, where we both studied Woven Textiles. After years working in the industry, we’ve both gone on to build our own little independent businesses around raising a family, which makes her work feel particularly special to me. I’m also rather taken with the beautiful floral lino prints from empress Lino Prints — right up my street with all those lovely botanical details. Emily Crofton

Then there are the gorgeous little floral ceramics by Katie Allman Ceramics. I’m always drawn to anything floral, so these were inevitably going to make my wish list! Katie Almond

One of my favourite things about the Super Seconds Festival is discovering and supporting other independent makers — although it does make it very difficult not to spend all my money before the festival has even started!

Anyone else getting ready for Autumn and looking forward to hearty healthy stews and casseroles?…

As the days get cooler and we start spending a little more time at home, it’s the perfect season for slow weekends, mindful baking and filling the kitchen with something warm from the oven.

So why not treat yourself to a beautiful pair of British made Double Oven Gloves?

From bluebells and daisies to poppies, snowdrops and seasonal florals, there’s a design to add a little colour and joy to every kitchen.

Every pattern begins with me in my Hove studio, creating coloured and textured papers using traditional painting and printing techniques before cutting them by hand to create my original collages.

The finished designs are then digitally printed onto fabric and made into Double Oven Gloves right here in the UK in small limited batches.

Beautiful, practical and designed to make those everyday moments feel a little more special.

Hello! I’m Bianca, the designer and maker behind Bianca Williams Design.

As we’re kicking off the countdown to the Super Seconds Festival, Week One is all about meeting the makers, so I thought I’d tell you a little bit about me and how my small business began.

I’ve worked in textiles for around 17 years, after graduating from Loughborough University with a degree in Woven Textiles. I started my career designing woven fabrics for the fashion industry, including fabrics for haute couture, before moving into textile design for the high street.

Then, during the pandemic, I lost my job and decided it was finally time to create something of my own.

Bianca Williams Design began from my little home studio in Hove, where I still design everything today.

My designs start life by hand. I paint and print sheets of coloured and textured paper, cut them up and collage them together to create my floral and botanical patterns. These are then transformed into colourful homewares, kitchen textiles, gifts, cards and lampshades.

Everything is designed by me, and I work with wonderful UK manufacturers to produce my collections in small batches.

I absolutely love what I do, and one of my favourite things is knowing that something which started as scraps of painted paper on my studio table ends up in someone else’s home.

I’ll be taking part in the Super Seconds Festival on 3rd & 4th October, when lots of my seconds, samples and end-of-line pieces will be looking for new homes….

Im continuing with the Sunflower and introducing my latest print - 🌻 Sunflowers in a Watering Can 🌻

I’ve had so much fun creating this one!

As with all my designs, it started with lots of hand-printed and painted papers. I then cut up all the little pieces and arrange them to create the flowers, leaves and watering can, building it up bit by bit to make the final floral collage. You can see a little bit of my process in the final video.

I love the slightly wonky, layered feel you get from working this way. Nothing is perfectly uniform, and that’s what makes it so much more interesting (and much more me! 😆).
