Having spent many years selling my cufflinks online, I began to realise that male oriented gifts were always pushed into a corner. I began talking to with my wife Claire about this, and she totally agreed; she found it very d
ifficult if not impossible to find gifts for me, We opened up the discussion amongst our friends and they all had the same opinion, buying presents for the men in their life was a real pain, so we set about seeing what was out there. To our amazement there was a huge selection of products focused completely on the modern man. The more we looked, the more we realised that the best products were made by small family run businesses who, (given the current economic climate) needed as much help as possible. Individually, they didn’t have the time or budget to advertise globally, but collectively things could potentially be very different. We began to dream of an on-line shop selling the coolest Male focused products from around the world, produced by small family run businesses. could we help turn the current need for cheap mass produced items back to an era where we appreciated well-made quality items that will last a life time?…..we sure hope so. Living with a husband who can never sit still can be a real pain sometimes. The constant discussions on what I thought about his new ideas sort of merged into one, until one day he asked me how difficult it was to find presents for him. I think he knew the answer already, (based on the number of socks in his drawer) but I pointed out that while I could occasionally find the odd amazing item, it did take many hours, and sometimes, days of searching, especially given my God given talent to break anything to do with computers. He then began to tell me of his latest brain wave, and for once it made sense. The idea of bringing together the best handmade products using the best materials from all over the world seemed brilliant. We discussed between ourselves and with friends the viability of this idea, and we came to the conclusion, let’s do it. Given that we were already running a hugely successful Art and Crafts Market in Dubai that had grown from 8 vendors to over 2500 in 5 years, we could see first-hand how powerful this extra income could be to families. What if we could do this on a global scale, what if we could set up an on-line market place where only the best products for men would be sold….. Could we really make a difference? Could we really impact the lives of hundreds and hopefully thousands of people around the world? We think we can. Follow us on twitter:
