Stall 11 has had a bit of structural TLC 💗

Previously open to the rafters, it now has a proper new roof - plus a fresh paint job.

Thanks to those who’ve been beavering out of hours to get the work done. Keeping a building this old, this big and this heavily used in good shape is a fairly relentless job. There is always something that needs repairing, replacing, painting or generally persuading to survive another few decades.

While we’d never want to polish away the character that makes Snoopers Snoopers, we’re constantly working behind the scenes to look after the building, improve the shop and futureproof it.

One roof, floorboard, light fitting and tin of paint at a time. 💪💗

We thought we knew where this was going.

A little ‘come with me to Snoopers’ reel, a Tiffany-style lamp is acquired, all very cute, carry on.

And then takes it back to her studio, says it’s inspired her to paint, sits down in front of a blank canvas… and casually produces this beautiful misty landscape. 😯🌲✨

Did not see that coming. Very much worth watching to the end. 👀

The guide, written by a former resident, shares the places she recommends for getting away from the usual tourist spots - with Snoopers described as “the ultimate secondhand indoor market” and somewhere you can “easily lose hours.”

7,000 square feet of antiques, vintage, collectables and curiosities will do that.

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people’s gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practise a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Those of you who know Stall 7 records and Stall23records will know Mark, aka Madonovan - long-time Snoopers record dealer and member of staff.

Fresh from ACIDFEST shows in Leeds and Liverpool, he’s back on home turf this weekend as the tour rolls into Brighton.

Madonovan. plays The Bee's Mouth this Sunday 30 August, as part of THE LIVERPOOL PSYCHEDELIC SOCIETY ‘s travelling psychedelic roadshow. 🌀

Go and make some noise for one of our own. 🙌
