MAHOUT is India's first selvedge denim brand for men. The brand was conceived by Kanishka Sharma in March 2012 in Dehra Dun, an erstwhile sleepy Raj-era hillstation and present-day bustling capital of Uttarakhand. Many masala chais, chilled beers, train journeys and time gone standing in goverment office queues are behind the launch of Mahout in April 2014. Our design studio and office is based in
Goa, India and Eastbourne, England and we make our merchandise in Goa and Bombay. We are an independent 'micro-jeanery' which means that we make a limited number of jeans in a handful of styles using quality material. And we make them using a 'made-to-order' premium selvedge denim fabric woven on vintage-style shuttle looms in a mill in Rajasthan. Our design philosophy is minimalist and rooted in the belief that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Which is why you'll find no artificially-imparted 'wear and tear' effects, excessive embroidery or other embellishments on our jeans. In this age of fast-fashion and mass production, Mahout stands for timeless appeal, a hat tip to heritage and simple authenticity.
