🎄 Black Friday Balance Bike Offer 🎄

We’ve never done kids’ bikes before — but this Christmas, we’re starting with something simple, practical, and genuinely brilliant: balance bikes.

The Ridgeback Scoot is the best way to teach little riders how to balance, steer, and build confidence without the frustration of stabilisers. Forget the old tricycle → stabilisers → wobbling years. Once kids master a balance bike, they usually skip straight to pedalling in no time.

From experience: two years on a balance bike meant just one week on stabilisers before my own daughter was flying solo.

Why we love balance bikes:
★ Build balance and coordination early
★ Light, simple, and confidence-boosting
★ Hold their value well
★ Come in two sizes – perfect for ages roughly 2 to 5

---

🎁 Black Friday Deal

Ridgeback Scoot – £150
✅ Free Oxford Scout helmet (worth £23)
✅ Choice of colours and sizes (both bikes and helmets)
✅ Bikes can be collected built or boxed – whichever’s easier to wrap!
✅ Boxed bikes will have the seat and head tubes pre-greased and tyres pumped up ready to go
✅ Built bikes come fully assembled at no extra charge

We’ll even hold your bike until Christmas Eve (Wednesday 24th December) – ready for pickup up to 2pm that day.

To get the free helmet, just order and pay by Black Friday.

The best way to get your kids pedalling is to start with no pedals at all.

🚨 Revolution Workshop Update 🚨

We’ve taken the decision to shut down our website.

We’re simplifying things. Too much time was being spent wrestling with an unhelpful hosting provider and managing online admin — time that’s better spent fixing bikes.

From now on, we’ll be using Facebook as our main point of contact. Most of our customers find us there or on Google Maps already, so it makes sense to lean into what works. You can still reach us by phone on 0117 9109618, or email at [email protected]

We're also scaling down the scope of The Revolution Workshop to focus purely on repairs and servicing, maybe with the occasional custom build — the things we do best. At the same time, Brigstow is growing, with its own showroom and coffee shop opening soon just next door. That’s where you’ll find the new bike range, accessories, and a fresh cup of coffee.

Thanks for sticking with us while we shift gears.

🔧 Service Update: New Opening Hours at The Revolution Workshop
From tomorrow, we’re moving to a hybrid system:
✅ Open for walk-ins 10:30am–4:00pm, Monday to Friday, on Saturdays we'll close at 2pm
✅ Appointments available outside of those hours both in store and collection and delivery

Last summer, we switched to appointment-only to manage workload and stay flexible while running the shop solo. It worked well for focused repairs and custom builds — but with Brigstow Bikes launching, we’re expecting more walk-in customers, and we want to be ready.

So from August:
🕥 Drop by between 10:30am–4:00pm — no appointment needed
⏰ Outside of that? Book an early or late slot online (48 hours’ notice) or give me a ring if it’s urgent

The Revolution Workshop has always been a repair-first business, but the industry has changed. Fewer people buy bikes, parts or accessories in person, yet more turn up asking for help when the ones they bought online don’t fit, don’t work, or need adapting. I’m always happy to help — but if I’m being treated like a service, it makes sense to operate like one.

Now, with Brigstow Bikes officially launching soon, there’s reason to be optimistic about being a retailer again.
We’ve built something tough, smart, and built for Bristol — and if it takes off, we’ll take on staff and return to full fixed opening hours.

👀 Hint hint: if you'd like to see that happen... buy your next bike from us.

Thanks again for all your support — whether you’ve been with us since the garage days or just found us recently.

— Will

It's official, the mystery bikes we've been displaying in the window are going to become our own fully fledged bike brand.

The bikes will be available in traditional pedal powered, or with a Boost ebike conversion.

We're taking pre-orders now. We'll be doing 10% off any preordered bikes, and we're also offering a further 10% off if you part exchange any bike, any age, in any condition. We'll be offering reduced price service packages and accessories bundle, already at 10% off the retail price.

Prices start at £800, with ebikes starting at £1500. Our ebike knocks the socks off any ebike you can buy at this price

Head over to Brigstow Bikes and give our sister page a follow. Even better, invite your friends to follow and let's make Mangotsfield the place in Bristol to buy tip top commuter bikes

We recently put out a survey and had over 100 responses.

Your biggest complaints? It was a dead heat:

🟰 Bikes are too sporty for everyday use
🟰 And they cut corners on the spec where it actually matters

That’s exactly what I see too. I’ve spent years fixing bikes with the same avoidable problems.
Here are my personal top three commuter bike peeves:

1️⃣ Disposable wheels on disc brake bikes
Disc brakes are great — they stop rim wear and use a replaceable rotor instead.
But if the hub is still a cheap loose ball bearing setup that develops play or runs rough after a wet winter… where's the benefit?

2️⃣ Cables routed through the headset
Don’t even get me started. It makes basic servicing a nightmare and turns a simple job into a full stripdown.

3️⃣ No-brand cranks with “replaceable” chainrings
In theory, it’s a good idea. In practice? Try finding those chainrings when they wear out. I’ve given up — sadly these cranks often end up binned.

These are the kinds of choices that frustrate both riders and mechanics.
We’ll be doing something about it very soon. For now, here's a sneak preview of one of our prototypes
