Well, it’s been a week and it isn’t quite over yet!

We have some pretty big news, well it is in our world.

Almost 4 years ago I had a seed of an idea to set up a business that would create an autism and dementia friendly shopping experience. No mean feat considering I had very little experience in managing a retail shop. Lots of people said “Don’t do it” and in typical Lucy fashion I ignored that advice.

So in March 2020 - TWO DAYS BEFORE LOCKDOWN with Richard Smith we opened Your Village Shop, an accessible community shop in ExtraCare Stoke Gifford Retirement Village

We have learnt and achieved so much during that time. Eventually being recognised by our MP and subsequently Prime Minister for our work during lockdown and the subsequent work experience programme we developed as part of Inclusive Change at Work - Community Interest Company

There is so much I could write but I feel that will be in a book!!!

This weekend Richard Smith and I are handing over Your Village Shop to new owners.

It is time for us to move on to our next steps and more importantly spend some time with our children who in the past 4 years have supported us to support others.

We want to THANK EVERYONE, every single person who has been part of Your Village Shop, it has been incredible and we are going to miss this very very special shop, the staff and customers so very very much.

Neither of us are very good at goodbyes but what we are leaving is in a good place and the new team are ready to take it to the next step. It will be different but thats ok.

For us, there are already exciting projects and new opportunities in the pipeline - and yes they are also purpose driven but from the lessons we have learnt along the way we know we will be taking some time to breathe and reset (well publicly at least 😂).

As of Monday 13th November Your Village Shop will be under new management and into the next phase of its journey. We hope it is as incredible as ours.

Our Partner company Inclusive Change Champions Network are looking for a new team member. They are recruiting for a Digital Community Apprentice (L4).

This is a new and exciting role with a 2 year apprenticeship programme that will lead to a career in the growing industry of online business management. Applicants will be interested in and excited about, the evolving nature of the digital world and social media, and how it can be used to drive meaningful change in the world of neurodiversity.

Looking forward to having Dan back at the Village next week for our final workshop in the Starting the Conversation- Introduction to Neurodiversity at work series is taking place on Monday.

We will be welcoming Dan Biddle who is founder of NDEAS, The National Diversity Employment and Advisory Service Ltd. Lucy and Dan will be discussing Reasonable Adjustment in Action, legal processes and a few practical strategies.
