As promised to Salt Pressed Flowers by Yanwen Graver | Pressed Flower Artist here are some books that I love, some practical, some for fun! My number one book is ‘Seaweeds of Britain and Ireland’ - full of scientific information to help identification, full of tonnes of images to help. 🪸 Let me know if you have any recommendations please!
Anna Atkins! A hugely talented botanist who pioneered using cynanotypes in books to record seaweed species. This book was a very beautiful gift and has many gorgeous images. (Thank you Charlee) 🪸
The seaweed collectors handbook - another gift! Covering everything you can imagine about seaweed. From old fisherman tales and myths to recipes along with some very beautiful illustrations. 🪸
You cannot forget the most incredible and inspirational pair that is . It was their shop in Lyme Regis that got me pressing in the first place and they are truly truly talented at making seaweed look phenomenal. It a a fabulous book too!
A special book of poems in a hand bound book that we got in Achill Island on our road trip around Ireland. Redfoxpress.ireland Thankyou!
Potentially less useful to us here, but this was another gift (I’m a lucky gal) after a magical trip to New Zealand. All the species found were new to me, so this is very fun to help work them all out. 🪸
Seaweed doesn’t feature heavily, but every now and then a kelp or bladderwrack will get mentioned as Roger Deakin swims around the UK. The first chapter features the Scilly Isles - I want to visit so badly! 🪸
Again, not specifically about seaweed - but this is an amazing book which reminds you about the magical the world of rock pools. You can’t be a seaweeeder and ignore all the other beautiful forms of life on the shore!
