Have you ever looked at a site and wondered how on earth you would survey THAT? Now imagine it’s one of the world’s most famous buildings.

The Colosseum in Rome stands about 48 metres high, and measures approximately 189 m long and 156 m wide. Not exactly your average survey site 😅

Yet it could be covered with just nine Thermal Ecology Kits, with no additional specialist equipment required. This is achieved by using 80° lenses with wide FOV to cover the whole structure.

Your next survey probably won’t be the Colosseum… but if it’s a particularly wide façade, a complex building, or an awkward site, it's nice to know your kit has serious coverage behind it.

On nights like this, bats can go a little crazy hunting for food. When you switch the tracking filter on, it starts looking just like an extremely starry night🦇✨

We were very glad to have our wide FOV thermal camera with us for this survey. The building was seriously wide, and normally that means more cameras, more setup and, inevitably, more footage to analyse afterwards.

With an 80-degree field of view, we managed to cover the whole survey area with just one camera. And judging from the amount of activity, we definitely picked a good one!

What you see on the right is a snapshot from our analysis software with the bats' movement imprinted across the image. It looks pretty cool and helps you pinpoint activity and track the bats' flight path.

Combine it with a High Sensitivity Mode and subtle activity becomes much easier to pick out against a challenging background (like trees and warm buildings). This allows you to investigate where bats actually emerge and have solid proof for your report.

Thermal cameras are incredibly sensitive, allowing you to precisely pick up and identify the bat emergence locations.

Research Studio helps you adjust visual settings (like contrast and colour palette) and detect and track bat activity quickly, using high-sensitivity mode and advanced analysis filters.
