I started making Violins at 16 years of age when enrolling on the well renowned Violin making course at Newark & Sherwood College in Nottinghamshire. Graduating 4 years later with my Diploma in Violin Making and also a City & Guilds in Violin Repair I worked in Canada for a couple of years before going to London to work in a quality shop where I refined repairing skills, rehairing lots of bows an
d continued to make new instruments.
*The Mission*
In 2006 Edward Gaut Violins came to Bristol with the aim to carry on Making New Violins Violas and Celli all year round so there is always something new to try. I also wanted to provide the best standard of Repairing for Violins, Violas and Cellos for players in the West of England. Working from my workshop in Bristol, my aim is to provide my customers with the most comprehensive service, providing knowledge and reassurance in the service or product they are purchasing. Instruments are able to be taken on approval for perspective buyers.
*Making New Instruments*
I hand make fine new instruments in the styles of the most highly regarded makers in history. Amati, Rogeri, Stadivari to name a few and as time goes by new models are added to my repertoire. They are made to the finest standards to show in my shop and others around the major cities in the UK although I am interested in finding respectable shops abroad to place them. I take on commission work making new instruments to the customers specific requirements. I like a new challenge and enjoy the process of creating a new model.
*Repairs*
It can be rather unnerving seeing damage to your instrument weather it occurs through an accident or climate fluctuations. At Edward Gaut Violins a detailed examination is performed to conclude the most effective course of repairs. Open everyday except Sundays by previously arranged appointment
