Tangerine is a collection of songs by Reiko and Tori Kudo recorded at Village Hototoguiss in Japan in 2011 and 2012 (plus one song recorded at Café OTO in London in 2009), and originally released on CD by Hyotan Records in 2013. It is now available on vinyl for the first time thanks to A Colourful Storm.

These beautiful, warm and intimate recordings are a touchstone of contemporary Japanese avant-folk minimalism and, significantly, it is also the last recorded appearance by the duo, who have performed together of over thirty years.

Tori and Reiko are longtime staples of Tokyo's DIY and experimental music community, and are possibly best know outside of Japan for leading the ensemble Maher Shalal Hash Baz (K Records, Geographic).

Some essential recent reissues and collections that we love…

The 30th anniversary edition of The Lemonheads’ perfect 1992 album, ‘It’s A Shame About Ray’ includes an extra disc of bonus tracks, and is available in full-size bookback editions with new liner notes and unseen photos, as well as standard gatefold versions on double-LP and double-CD.

Matrimony’s 1989 album ‘Kitty Finger’ is finally available once again on vinyl thanks to Kill Rock Stars. The Sydney, Australia band’s only album was a big influence on the emerging riot grrrl scene in Olympia, WA when it came out, and was reissued on CD in 1996 at the insistence of Kathleen Hanna. This special reissue has a holographic silver foil stamped sleeve and includes an 11”x22” poster.

Newton’s self-released 1977 solo-debut, ‘Flute Music,’ is an eclectic mix of free-jazz and blissful woodwind minimalism (as well as a little bossnova) and has been reissued for the very first time by Morning Trip/ Telephone Explosion in its original sleeve artwork.

Come’s Peel Sessions from 1992 and 1993 are released for the first time by Fire Records, and includes the excellent ‘City of Fun’ and ’Mercury Falls’ which were not on any of their albums.

Ros Bandt’s 1983 album ‘Soft and Fragile’ is just that - a series of structured improvisations using custom-built bells and gongs and slowed-down tape loops. It’s been reissued by EFFICIENT SPACE with a redesigned sleeve and the original extensive liner notes.

Avant-garde trombonist Phil Ranelin’s 1974 debut ‘The Time is Now’ is a sprawling free-jazz/spiritual-jazz masterpiece that was originally released on Tribe Records (the artist-run label/collective founded by Ranelin and Wendell Harrison in Detroit in 1972), and is part of Now Again Records series of reissues highlighting the label. It comes in sleeve reproducing the original artwork, complete with Ranelin’s liner notes, plus a full-size booklet with extensive essay and unseen archival photos.
