A pair of Italians walk into a photography studio…this white glazed Bassano pottery brontosaurus oozes 1970s excess, especially on a glass coffee table. A little earlier than that but still Italian this 1950s gilt iron trwisted rope number compliments the curves of a dinosaurs neck with perfectly flowing ease, trompe l’oeil at its stylish best.

Just what everyone needs in their life… a giant oversized clothes peg. A pretty sculptural piece probably originally made as a shop display, what I really love is how the dusky pink paint emulates the classic sun bleached faded red plastic of a peg that’s been sat on a washing line for twenty summers in a row.

Possibly the most favouritest item we have ever bought and impossibly romantic to boot! An original Regency watercolour valentine, with a rebus none the less, a puzzle made up with pictures as words, think a message spelt out with Jane Austen period emojis. Interpreted as follows:
‘My dearest Angel, Accept the hand and burning heart of thy honest gentleman, to whom thou art much dearer than gold.’

And as if it couldn’t get any better, a dedicated original hand written poem on the reverse to Anna. It goes like this:

“What is a Valentine sweet Anna say?
Is it a lover of a single day
Is it a trifler who with flame and dart,
Of painted paper, seeks to win your heart,
Is it the favorite of a morning glance,
Met with by accident and seen by chance,
If so I am not one to serve such terms,
With no false flame or as bad do I burn
In no fictitious sorrows do I deal,
It is no plaything passion that I feel
Device I’ve none, my tenderness to prove,
Without device, in sober truth I love,
In short the much I wish that you were mine;
I cannot wish to be your Valentine
To love and to be loved for one short day
No I will be yours for ever if I may. –
But should you some more favor’d lover choose,
Reject my passion and my heart refuse,
I’ll quit this hated world, a victim to my love
To sing of “the Anna” in the realms above.”

Although it looks almost identical in this photo we are now in at our new studio/barn. We have a lot more space than before which is good and the light seems good too. I haven’t posted for a long while but here are a few of our latest arrivals. It was love at first sight with the chairs, we may re-rush the seats eventually but for now are really enjoying them as they are, I don’t really want to touch a hair on their pretty little heads as they are so god damn original and beautiful! The pine cricket table is an unusual one too with the integral drawer in the apron. As ever we always buy portraits that we are drawn to, this one is no exception. It is unsigned but has something about it. We also have a lot of other stock to process but for now what we need to do is get into the space and have a good old fashioned tidy up to make it a bit more usable. As ever give us a shout if you are interested in anything.

Happy folky New Year folks. Happy folky new pieces here, just touched down in the studio, a primitive European pine bench and a couple of tramp art frames with their original photographs in. One with sailors on a ship which was found behind a 1950s print. What a joy to find! Also a glimpse of a giant wicker basket. All should be hitting the website in 2026 but as ever let me know if interested in any of it.

Rocking around the Christmas tree, a good solid oak arts and crafts rocking chair with the most wonderful shimmering medullary rays in the grain. Probably American in origin and of the Mission Arts and Crafts School in the manner of Gustav Stickley. Seems to effortlessly fit with the Dutch Expressionist Still Life Oil, neither are on the website yet so let me know if interested in either, or both. Merry Christas Everyone.

This cheeky chappy is busy plotting how to spoil Christmas, although gnomes and elves are related they feel distinctly different about the annual holiday, apparently! Standing in at two foot five inches you better watch out. Coming from a Buckinghamshire Manor House and probably originating in Germany he is available to purchase, if you dare, and perfect for planting up with a strawberry plant. A rather more grown up and stylish offering is this J.P. White Arts and crafts bench he is stood in front of. With the current rate time is flying, Spring is yet a blink of an eye away! Neither are on the website yet so let us know if you are interested in either, or both. Merry Christmas everyone!!!!
