Yala Jewellery

Yala Jewellery Yala is award-winning African jewellery for the modern woman, ethically and sustainably made in Kenya.

"Jewellery Brand of the Year" in the Sustainable Lifestyle Awards and the very first jewellery company in the UK to become a Certified B Corporation. Yala Studio is an ethical and sustainable accessories brand inspired by the Kenyan heritage of our founder Audrey. Quality, ethics and sustainability are central to the Yala brand ethos. Your wardrobe and accessories should be an investment in your p

ersonal style, and it’s worth paying a little extra for extraordinary items that are designed to last. Looking good isn’t worth any negative impact on people or the planet so Yala will only partner with production facilities that pay their staff a fair, living wage and are committed to being socially and environmentally responsible. We focus on small batch production, both to minimise environmental impact, and also to ensure outstanding quality. Every Yala product is either handmade or hand-finished so small irregularities are normal and give each item its own unique look. As for the name, Yala is one of Audrey’s favourite places in the world – it’s the town in Kenya where her grandmother lives.

Yala is officially closed.

I’ve taken the time to thank our artisans and anyone who has ever been a part of Yala, but now I would like to take the time to thank you, the customer.

I want to thank every single customer who has ever shopped with us. Without you, there would be no business. None of your purchases were ever taken for granted, we truly appreciated every single one. ❤️

Thank you for supporting myself, Yala the brand, and our artisans. You are what made Yala a success.

Yala is closing almost exactly five years after it began in April 2018. Thank you for an incredible 5 years filled with love, support, and success.

Keep on supporting small, ethical, black-owned, or sustainability-driven businesses. They’re the ones making the biggest positive impact on our world.

All my love — Audrey Migot-Adholla, Founder and CEO of Yala. x

At the end of February, we’ll be closing Yala. Our artisans who hand-make our products are equally saddened by this news, but rest assured they work with several brands, and will continue to be employed. Everything on our website will be marked down by 50% as we wind things down.

It was an absolute pleasure to be interviewed by documentary photographer, film-maker and activist - "Consuming Consciously" is a new series from featuring conversations with the ethical and sustainable brands that put the environment and artisans at the forefront of everything they do.
We talked about working with artisans in Kenya, sustainability, becoming a and why more companies should pursue certification.

So many of you had said lovely things about our packaging, which is always nice to hear.

There’s always room for improvement, so we’re making some changes behind the scenes to deliver your jewellery in packaging that’s even better for the environment.
Stay tuned...

Feeling hopeful and optimistic after seeing ‘s speech. I’m not American but it’s nice to be reminded what a skilled communicator sounds like.
And the message of empathy above all never gets old.

The zero waste pendant is by far the best selling piece in our collection.
During the casting process of other jewellery items, small pieces of brass are rescued by the artisans and tuned into pendants, which they call “organics”.

Black Lives Matter
Yes, racism is problem in the UK and Europe too.
Perhaps black people don’t get shot at the same rate in the UK, but many have died in police custody and racism takes many forms.
Being non racist isn’t enough, it’s passive. We need to be actively anti-racist.
Don’t be ashamed to admit what you don’t know - ask questions, read and listen.
But most importantly - give a s**t ✊🏾❤️

Buy one, Give one - let’s talk about face masks.
We’re trying to do whatever we can to support Kenyans against the ‘Rona.
We’ve made, sourced and donated over 250 masks so far but we need your help to keep going.
For every mask purchased, one will be donated and distributed through the Kenya Red Cross and AMREF (African Medical Research Foundation).
