The Cove - Discovery Project

The Cove - Discovery Project Inspire • Connect • Protect
Driven by conservation, education & research, we spark understanding and empower stewardship. News!!! Drop in and say hi.

Proudly funding our projects through a sustainable clothing brand that makes a difference. We now have our own shop by Brixham harbour! We have created this exciting project to celebrate of the lives of both wildlife and people in and around Churston Cove, Brixham, Devon. The project is a collaboration of conservation and community which will create a series of local events including talks, educat

ional programmes, art exhibition, live music, and wildlife conservation awareness. All focussed on ‘The Cove’. We aim for a sustainable approach to local conservation through community and creativity. The project will bring together; art, music and community in helping to raise awareness of this important wild space for both humans and wildlife. This is a celebration of a unique haven of beautiful thriving habitats, peaceful beaches and vibrant woodlands. Many thousands of people visit the cove annually. With continued increases in human activity, we are looking at ways to raise awareness of need to preserve the cove as an important wild space and celebrate its natural beauty for the benefit of all. Our launch event was held at Lupton House, Brixham on 13th May 2022 attended by over 100 people (thank you). The event included an exhibition of local artists, all focussed on the sea with a cove marine habitat talk by Duncan Kenny and Chris Thomas. If you can, please share our information to your personal and professional networks to help raise the awareness for the need to develop creative community based conservation solutions. Thank you, we look forward to seeing you at one (or more) of our project events or drop into our shop in Brixham (Middle Street).

Day 2 on the island. A new pup today, bringing the total so far to 4 pups. We are researching grey seal pup mortality so we monitor all births and pup development until weaning. We also attempt to identify pregnant breeding females on the island to predict when and where they pup and compare this with over 16 years of project data from this island. It's a fascinating project and a privilege to be a part of.
