Back on the road with Justin Hayward for the second year running!

Once again we've been supporting Justin Hayward's team on their UK tour, supplying racks and stacks for some of the larger venues on the run.

Over the past couple of weeks, our L-Acoustics Kara II system has been put to work at Aylesbury Waterside Theatre and Southend Cliffs Pavilion.

Taking a feed from the touring console into our P1 processor, we ran the system over a redundant AVB network, using LS10 switches and LA12X amplified controllers.

It's great to continue supporting Justin and his team, providing the audio systems needed to bring the shows to audiences across the UK.

Last week, we headed back to L-Acoustics HQ in Marcoussis, thanks to Core Pro Audio and the team at L-Acoustics.

The main event was getting to hear the new CS1 4 x 21" subwoofer in action, and it certainly didn't disappoint!

We also had the opportunity to explore more of L-Acoustics' latest technology, including L-ISA, LA DJ and the highly anticipated Source Intelligence.

It's always exciting to get hands-on with new developments in pro audio, exchange ideas and catch up with some of our fellow rental companies along the way.

One tour can take you to some very different places.

Bury Tomorrow European run this summer included enormous festival stages at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, alongside smaller shows in some pretty extraordinary surroundings.

One of the standouts was Schloßbergbühne Kasematten in Graz, Austria, an open-air venue set within the remains of the city's historic fortifications.

Wherever the show lands, the challenge is the same: take a touring production into a new environment and deliver a consistent experience for the band and the audience.

With our own Dave Billings at FOH and a Subfrantic equipment package travelling with the tour, the team had a familiar setup to work from throughout the run.

Not a bad office for the summer.

Eight speakers. One stereo feed. Come and hear what happens next.

We’re getting ready to welcome POLAR Audio to Subfrantic on 27 October for a live demo of the Areal Upmix Engine.

We’ll be setting up an eight-speaker system, with a left/right Dante feed from the console into the Upmix Engine, so attendees can hear the system working for themselves and explore its potential applications.

If you’re curious about the technology and want the opportunity to hear it in a proper demo environment, come and join us.

Want to hear the Areal Upmix Engine in action?

On 27 October, we’re welcoming the team from POLAR Audio to Subfrantic for a live demonstration of the Areal Upmix Engine.

The session will be an opportunity to hear the system in a real-world setup, explore what it can do and speak directly with the team behind it.

We’ll be running the demo across an eight-speaker system, giving attendees the chance to properly experience the technology rather than simply read about it.

From a 7.5-tonne flatbed with Basement Jaxx to the biggest sound system we own today on a 40' artic.

Our first foray into Notting Hill Carnival was back in the mid-90s.

We loaded the biggest sound system we owned onto a 7.5-tonne flatbed and headed through the streets of Notting Hill with Basement Jaxx, playing everything from house to poodle rock. Dozens of people jumped on the truck along the way, and the party carried on for a good hour after we’d left the Carnival route.

Fast forward around 30 years and we’re still doing it. Only now, the sound system is much bigger and so is the truck.

In the years between, we’ve worked on countless floats for different organisations, including one for the London Fire Brigade. We’ve run Turbosound, L-Acoustics and d&b audiotechnik systems, radio-linked multiple trucks and made a lot of noise along the way.

Carnival has changed enormously in that time too. The regulations around vehicles, sound, timings and health and safety have developed significantly, and we’ve seen first-hand the work that goes into delivering an event of this scale safely.

Times have changed, technology has changed and our floats have definitely changed.

But 30 years later, we’re still very proud to be part of it.

From Europe to Australia and Japan with Bury Tomorrow

Following a busy summer of European shows and festivals, our own Dave Billings has been back on the road with Bury Tomorrow, this time taking their live show across Australia and Japan.

Dave has been behind the band’s FOH mix for more than 11 years, working with them at venues and festivals around the world while also forming a key part of our in-house audio team here at Subfrantic.

It’s a relationship that brings together two sides of what we do: supplying the equipment and support needed to get a tour on the road, and having experienced engineers out there putting it all to work show after show.

A different kind of training day for the Subfrantic team.

We recently swapped the consoles and production kit for something equally important, first aid training.

It was great welcome back Andrew from Health Care Training Services, who put us through their paces. The team were given the opportunity to refresh their knowledge, learn some new skills and make sure they’re better prepared, should we ever need to put them into practice.

Before the festival crowds came the rehearsal room.

Ahead of Ren summer festival run, we welcomed the production to Subfrantic for part of the rehearsal and pre-production process.

Alongside the audio package, we supplied Chauvet ColorStrike M fixtures, an MA Lighting grandMA3 light, Samsung displays and a Unilumin LED wall, giving the team the tools to bring the different elements of the live show together before heading out.

That preparation then went into three huge summer appearances at All Points East, Boomtown Fair and Boardmasters Festivals.

It’s always satisfying to see a production go from rehearsals and prep to the finished show on stage.
