Black Friday giving back! An important announcement.

Whilst Black Friday seems to be growing each year, the numbers against it are also growing. We fully understand the argument that it can promote over consumption and often encourages mindless buying, but we do believe there is an opposite side to this. Not just with nappies, but all products, sales where there are discounts may be the difference between someone being able to afford a (sometimes essential) product or not.

In light of this, Brainy Bums will be participating in Black Friday, however we’re doing it with a twist! We’re going to give back! For every nappy purchased during our Black Friday sale we will donate another to a community organisation that helps those who support those who cannot afford to cloth. We’ll be working with the nappy libraries to identify the best community partnerships. This is on top of our commitment to 1% for the planet, whereby we donate 1% of our annual turnover to incentives which support those affected by climate poverty.

Our sale, which will be 20% off our nappies will run from Friday 19th until midnight 30th November covering Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Giving Tuesday.

Did you know there’s no rules about stuffing cloth nappies?

A couple of days ago one of our lovely ambassadors mentioned about going easy on yourself as you return to work/new routines commence. It got us thinking.. we all adore seeing our nappies neatly folded and stacked. But we didn’t sign a contract when we started using them saying they would always be presented like this! It’s ok if they live in a basket or drawer as they come off the airer unfolded and you play a game of pot luck pick up by the insert or wrap. Admittedly if you’re using all-in-two’s it can be easier to pre stuff so you’ve got the parts to hand but don’t put the pressure on yourself, a pile like this can make for a more interesting selection.

Who finds reusables are a great conversation starting point?

Currently enjoying an extended stay in hosptial whilst we wait for Brainy Bum baby number 2 and naturally a pod has made it into my hospital bag.
Last week though, it was an excellent conversation starter! I love your bag, is it Ted Baker? Nope, it’s a Brainy Bums pod 😉 queue we started talking about how fab pods are and then started talking about cloth nappies and wipes. And then, strangely enough later that day a conversation about reusable csp, not even the midwives were aware it was a thing, let alone suitable for use post partum.

Needless to say, I might have to go do some rounds of the Antenatal and Post Natal wards whilst I’m here 😂 (it could be a while) and convince some more to give it a go.

Has anyone spotted your nappies or pods/wet bags and started asking about them?

I’m sure you’ll be very pleased to hear your design has been mistaken for Ted Baker. 😆

Also so hard to get decent lighting or space to take a photo in a hosptial ward bay.

When designing our nappies we had no doubt natural fibres were the only option for us.

They provide excellent absorbency options which mean they suit from flooders through to heavy wetters. But another less known benefit is they release significantly less micro plastics into the wash/water than man made options such as microfibre.

There’s a brainy bums option for everyone! Have you tried natural fibres? What’s your favourite?
