Another Author Event Announced!

We are absolutely thrilled to welcome former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon to our upcoming event, celebrating the paperback release of her deeply personal and revelatory memoir, Frankly.

As Scotland’s first female and longest-serving First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon has been at the absolute forefront of modern political history. For this special evening, she will share with us the remarkable journey that took her from a working-class childhood in Ayrshire to the steps of Bute House.

Frankly offers an unflinching, clear-eyed look behind the public persona. With her trademark verve, intelligence, and sharp wit, she will be discussing the pivotal moments that shaped a generation, the unique pressures of leadership, and the candid truths of her private and public life.

It promises to be an unforgettable occasion filled with fascinating insights, honest reflection, and engaging conversation. We cannot wait to share this exceptional experience with Broughty Ferry - this is an evening you won’t want to miss!

You can secure your tickets by getting them online using the link below or picking one up from our shop.

We had a fantastic night last night at an exclusive evening for Courier subscribers featuring Dundee-born entrepreneur and apprentice interviewer Mike Soutar!

Mike started off his varied career in DC Thomsons, writing beauty tips and horoscopes at the age of 17 - from there he worked his way up, building businesses, becoming a CEO and one of the interviewers on The Apprentice!

Mike shared lessons he has learned throughout his career and regailed us with anecdotes from his own interviews when he was starting out, as well as some fun stories about the show he has become a fixture on.

Mike was effortless charismatic and took the time to speak to everyone who wanted a chat after the event when he signed copies of his book.

His new book, "Next Gen CEO", published by is a fantastic toolkit which should be read not just by leaders, but by budding entrepreneurs and bust professionals too, thanks to its short, punchy chapters! Mike was kind enough to sign copies for the shop so if you want to get one, grab a signed edition before we run out! Thanks to .uk for inviting us along to sell the book!

Only a few more weeks until Independent Bookshop Week! Independent Bookshop Week is a celebration of independent bookshops across the UK and Ireland, run by , which aims to highlight the vital role independent bookshops play in their communities, and to encourage consumers to shop for their summer reads with their local independent (hopefully for you, that's us!) .

This year is incredibly special because it marks the 20th anniversary of celebrating independent bookshops across the UK and Ireland!

We have been busy behind the scenes, preparing loads of special offers and giveaways for this week! Here is a small selection of what's on offer for now, but keep your eyes peeled as we will be adding more around Independent Bookshop Week!

Happy Publication day to 3 fantastic publications! We have Signed/Indie Bookshop Editions of all 3 of these but we don't expect stock to last long!

From the world of "The Midnight Library" (one of my favourite books and I'm sure I'm not the only person who thinks that) comes "The Midnight Train". Another magical, uplifting tale about love and second chances.

The Indie bookshop edition of "Katabasis" - the story of a hero's descent into the underworld - with a twist. A grad student has to go to hell to find her PhD professor so she can become the brightest mind in the field of magick - unfortunately, she is having to go there with the help of her rival, Peter. The rules of hell turn out to be not what everyone thought and to make it through, the two of them will have to work together.

Signed Indie Edition of "John of John". From bestselling author of "Shuggie Bain" and "Young Mungo", Douglas Stuart's latest novel has been described as "brilliant and rare" by Ann Patchett and "a masterpiece" by Elaine Feeney. The story centres around John-Calum Macleod who returns home to the island of Harris to find he is the only one who has changed. He resumes his old life, caught between his sheep farmer and weaver farmer and his Glaswegian grandmother Ella. As the seasons pass, everything is poised to change as the threads holding together the fragile community become increasingly tangled. I have heard so much about this book already and it's definitely next on my list!

The Inspiration: Why the Orkney Islands hold such a special place in Lorraine's heart and how they inspired the "Island" series.
The Craft: How Lorraine transitioned from decades of deadline-driven journalism to the long-form art of fiction writing.
A Life in the Spotlight: Personal stories from Lorraine’s legendary career in broadcasting, shared through the unique lens of a mother-daughter conversation.
