What a way to finish off a VERY busy week at AJ Flooring! πŸ’ͺπŸ”₯ A serious amount of preparation went into this one before we could even think about laying the herringbone.

First up, 12mm plywood over the uneven floorboards to get everything solid and level. Then we had to build up the concrete areas by 12mm, followed by a final 6mm coat of self-levelling compound across the whole floor.

A LOT of preparation… but done right, it makes all the difference! πŸ‘ŒπŸ“

Once the floor was smooth, solid and ready to go, it was time for the Warm Oak Texture Range Herringbone 🀎πŸ”₯

πŸŽ₯ 2-MINUTE VLOG | A NEW SYSTEM WE’RE USING AT AJ FLOORING πŸ‘€

Something a little different on this one! We’ve started using tile backer boards as part of our preparation system, and they’re proving to be a great way of building up height while also helping to prevent moisture issues.

The boards come in 6mm, 9mm and 12mm thicknesses, giving us plenty of options depending on the build-up we need. They’re cement-based boards, making them a solid and stable base for our self-levelling system. πŸ’ͺ

πŸ”¨ DAY 1
First job was to thoroughly degrease the existing floor before getting started. We then measured, cut and dry-laid all of the boards so everything was ready to be permanently fixed down.

πŸ”¨ DAY 2
Once the boards were down, we grit-primed the floor ready for the next stage. We then went in with a 6mm layer of self-levelling compound, giving us a massive 16mm total build-up to bring the new floor perfectly in line with the existing kitchen floor.

It’s all about getting the preparation right before the finished floor even gets anywhere near it. πŸ‘Œ

🚨 WHAT STARTED AS A STRAIGHTFORWARD JOB… TURNED INTO A FULL FLOOR TRANSFORMATION! 🚨

This one was supposed to be a simple uplift, self-level and fit… but once we got started, we uncovered a whole different story! 😳

The previous self-level had been laid without primer and directly over loose ceramic tiles 😬 β€” meaning there was no way we could simply go over the top and guarantee a solid, long-lasting finish.

So, it was back to square one! πŸ’ͺ

We ripped the whole lot out and started from fresh. πŸ› οΈ

Then we hit another challenge… the level difference between the existing quarry tiles and the thickness required meant another coat of standard self-level just wasn’t going to cut it.

So we called in the big dawgs! 🐢πŸ’ͺ

A 30mm layer of asphalt was installed to bring everything up to the correct level, followed by a 6mm coat of self-level to create the perfect smooth, stable base. πŸ‘Œ

And finally… it was time for the star of the show. ⭐

From a loose, unsuitable floor to a completely transformed, perfectly prepared base ready for a stunning herringbone finish. 🀩

We fitted this beautiful Warm Oak herringbone throughout the bedroom, walk-in wardrobe and ensuite, creating a seamless and stylish finish. 🀎

The herringbone was carefully cut back and prepared ready for the half-carpet / half-herringbone effect, giving the room a unique, modern look while keeping the transition clean and precise. πŸ‘ŒπŸ”¨
