L shape, tray frames, are perfect when you want to show off the sides of a canvas, but sometimes they are a little too simplistic. I like to add width, colour & presence by adding additional frame mouldings on top of the tray frame. This is known as 'stacking' the framing industry. When it's done right stacking enhances the art work & gives it more importance. This acrylic on canvas by of Woolacoombe has been framed in a smooth white tray frame with a 15mm gap between the sides of the canvas & the frame. Added to that are a narrow smooth purple frame & a wider smooth white frame, both from the Confetti range.

We've just reframed the medals of Lance Corporal John Pennington Harman VC, for Lundy Island Museum. His medals include the Victoria Cross he was awarded posthumously for his bravery in action in India during World War II. Lance Corpral Harman was the son of millionaire Martin Coles Harman, owner of Lundy Island.
The medals, cap badge, photo & accompanying information were framed to conservation standrds using museum glass & conservation mountboard & satin black frame moulding. They should now be protected against ultraviolet light, acidic materials & airbourne pollutants for the next couple of decades.
