Our entrance display this week is from THE RAMP

Taking centre stage is a rare pair of Liberty London leather horses, c1930. Standing over 2 feet high, their anatomical details and superb leatherwork embody the craftsmanship that has made early Liberty pieces so sought after

They are sitting on an oak collectors cabinet from the Anouska Hempel Collection - one of Britain’s most influential interior designers Hempel is known for juxtaposing fine English furniture with Asian, Continental and architectural antiques

Completing the display are a Victorian japanned tea caddy, an oak tambour filing cabinet with original Ickworth Abbey drawer labels, a French Hollywood Regency stork centrepiece, and a quirky French cast iron cat boot scraper

Every piece has been chosen by Charlotte for its design, history and story - she’s at the helm today but lives locally so will always nip in for a chat if a particular piece catches your eye

Made for leisurely days in the countryside, motoring adventures and summer picnics, this Edwardian wicker picnic basket is exquisite

It comes complete with a pewter tea kettle, flasks, cutlery and beautiful floral Shelley china, all housed within woven compartments and secured by hand-stitched leather straps

Four weeks to go …

After the rip roaring success of the first one, our Flea Market returns to Earsham Hall on August Bank Holiday Monday

There’ll be around 50 stalls across the grounds and in our courtyard - a mix of antiques dealers having a clear out alongside downsizers and collectors with treasures to sell

Expect antiques, vintage finds, gardenalia, country wares, decorative pieces and all sorts of interesting bits and bobs - if you love a proper rummage and a great deal, this one’s for you

We’ll be open from 9am until around 3pm, with free entry and plenty of parking.

You’ll find us just outside Bungay on the Norfolk / Suffolk border, less than 30 minutes from Norwich and about the same to the coast

Just one or two spaces left so if you’re interested in having a stall do get in touch

Baskets at the ready - it’s the Courtyard Foodie Market today and we hope you’ll pop along for some antiquing and foodie fun

Our courtyard will be filled with stallholders selling an array of locally produced edible treats, fresh flowers and a few surprises

Earsham Hall Shop earshamhall_tearooms earsham hall kitchens and interiors George’s Gorgeous Gardens and Walrus Studios will all be open too

The market runs from 10am–1pm, with the rest of us open until 4pm, so there’s plenty of time for a browse, a coffee or maybe Earsham Hall, just outside Bungay on the Norfolk / Suffolk border less than half an hour from Norwich and about the same to the coast

Made in Harleston around 1820, this beautiful 8-day painted dial longcase clock has been keeping time for over 200 years...

Made in Harleston around 1820, this beautiful 8-day painted dial longcase clock has been keeping time for over 200 years

With its original oak case and painted dial with Arabic numerals, it has wonderful details - the painted doves in the arch are a traditional symbol of love, often associated with wedding gifts and the distinctive whale-tail decoration to the hood arch, a feature typical of East Anglian longcase clocks and one that collectors look for when identifying regional craftsmanship

The well-maintained 8-day movement remains accurate and reliable, striking the hours on its original bronze bell, and it still retains its original winding key.

Peg did her rounds trying out some of the antique and vintage chairs here at Earsham Hall Antiques and declared this striking orange leather Venus chair her favourite

One of a pair of mid-century Venus chairs, designed by Börje Johansson, with vibrant orange leather upholstery on elegant white tulip bases - an iconic design, admired for their sculptural form and timeless style, sought after by mid-century design collectors but as we know Peg does have a very discerning eye

This fine George III mahogany pedestal desk, dating to around 1780, has just arrived at Earsham Hall Antiques

With nine oak-lined drawers, brass swan-neck handles and a wonderfully rich patina - the leather writing surface shows honest wear and some historic water marks, gentle reminders of a long and useful working life

Double sided but narrower than a partners desk, it was bought in London in the 1980’s and sat in the Norfolk home of one of our dealers for over forty years, it would be equally at home in a country house, library or study
