An uncommon and richly detailed example of a Glastonbury-type armchair, crafted in the Gothic Revival style during the second half of the 19th century. Unlike the traditional X-frame design, this version features a more conventional construction with turned legs and an H-stretcher, offering added stability while maintaining strong medieval-inspired character.

The chair has a raised, carved back with Gothic motifs and distinctive open arms, which are carved and padded with green leather cushions, echoing the stuffed leather seat and back. The combination of detailed carving and period-appropriate green leather upholstery gives the piece a refined yet robust presence.

A wonderful bronze figure of the champion golfer Harry Vardon. Sculpted by Hal Ludlow and cast by the Elkington foundry, Circa 1910.

The impressive and well-known figure of Vardon stands 12 ½ cm high. The last image is an Elkington & Co. Ltd. advert for the bronze statuette taken from the golf book 'Success At Golf' published in 1914.

Henry Stephen Ludlow (Hal) was born in 1861. He studied at Heatherleys and Highgate Art Colleges. He became a portrait painter and illustrator for the Illustrated London News, Sketch Magazine etc. Hal Ludlow was also a fine golfer; he won the 1904 Welsh National Amateur Championship.

Displayed in our shop is this incredible piece of taxidermy - a mounted Cape buffalo head.

An impressive trophy shoulder mount of an African Cape Buffalo, also known as the African Buffalo (Syncerus caffer caffer). In recent years, taxidermy has seen a resurgence as a collectible, and this well-prepared, fine specimen would make a striking statement on any wall.

The buffalo features inset glass eyes, a forward-facing pose, and horns with excellent curvature. The rear mounting board is plywood and bears no maker’s marks. A superb example of big game taxidermy.
