One of my favourite periods of furniture and architecture is Regency.

Now live on our website is this particularly handsome Circa 1820/30 Mahogany Chiffonier Bookcase. Having ebony detailing, brass inlay and decorative glazed doors with a repeating crescent design.
Sweeping acanthus carved supports, elegant scrolls and well carved lion’s paw feet complete the look.

Perhaps not the height of fashion, but I’ve always thought it far more interesting to be ahead of the curve rather than follow it.
So here we have a rather charming Edwardian two-seater, circa 1900–1910, with a distinct Art Nouveau flavour. Good clean lines, comfortable and supportive. Good upholstery.

Purchased last week from a Sussex family where it had remained for three generations, passing down through the family from grandparents to granddaughter.

Great at the end of a bed, hallway, boot-room or kitchen. Could be painted or stripped back.
For sale at a very reasonable £350.

A wonderful large antique toleware tray with that perfect country house look.
The tray is beautifully hand-painted with what appears to be a Nativity scene, with good age and patina, later mounted on a black japanned canted corner stand. Possibly a Russian piece.

A gift with a story. ♥️

A winderful Victorian marble and pietra dura inlaid chess table, mid 1800’s, the top decorated with exotic birds amongst flowering and foliate branches and centred with a beautifully figured stone chessboard.

But turn it over and it gets considerably more interesting.

Inscribed:

“Present to Miss Emma Howard from G. W. Bulcraig, August 9th 1872, Houndsditch.”

The inscription incorporates a heart-shaped cartouche.

Researching the rare surname strongly leans towards a George William Bulcraig, later recorded running dining rooms at 103 Curtain Road, just north of the Houndsditch. Quite what their relationship was remains a mystery, but a beautiful chess table, a heart and an exact date certainly isn’t your average everyday gift! ❤️♟️

All raised on a wonderfully carved and turned pedestal with scrolling tripod base.

Dated: London, 1872
154 years later, it’s still keeping its secret. ❤️

Now on the website 🌎🛒❤️

A quality Victorian Gothic Revival octagonal library or centre table, stamped to one drawer by the renowned Guildford cabinet makers and furnishers W. Williamson & Sons.
Made in solid oak, the table has a wonderfully architectural base with bold barley-twist legs, substantial bun feet with inset ceramic castors and particularly attractive Gothic tracery stretchers centred by a turned finial.
The deep frieze is finely carved throughout with repeating circular motifs and florets and incorporates four useful drawers which are oak lined. Further signs of the quality of construction. The octagonal top retains its wonderfully aged very dark green, almost black leather writing surface, framed by a lighter green border with delicate gilt tooling.
W. Williamson & Sons were one of Guildford’s most prestigious furniture firms and a major local employer of skilled cabinet makers and upholsterers. At their height they operated 39 furniture galleries covering some 40,000 square feet. Their reputation for quality resulted in a Royal Appointment to Queen Victoria in 1889, with the firm undertaking upholstery and drapery work at Windsor Castle. The company continued trading until 1960.
A handsome and substantial piece of Victorian furniture that would work particularly well as a library table, centre table or large occasional table, with enough presence to anchor a room without being overly large.

Dimensions: 118cm wide × 118cm deep × 73cm high.
