One week on. πŸ•ŠοΈ
We've started a little garden space for Yogi β€” not finished, not everything in place yet, but a start. Somewhere for him.
This week has been one of the hardest of my life, but the garden has held us. The other night a grasshopper landed on my arm, and out of nowhere I saw him β€” bounding through long golden grass in the fields, feral and free, exactly how he loved to be. Since then it's felt like nature's been speaking for him. An endless run of white butterflies. Feathers appearing from nowhere. Birds coming close in the garden like they know. I'm spiritual, I've always believed in signs β€” but I've never felt a spirit this strong, this present, this fast.
His dad has taken this particularly hard. He imprinted on Yogi the day he picked him up and brought him home - for me, but there was a bond between them even I couldn't compete with. Watching Leon grieve his little boy has been its own kind of heartbreak.
I won't pretend I've found this easy either, but I think losing my mam young gave me some familiarity with grief's shape already β€” I've walked this road before, even if every loss still hurts in its own way.
Gizmo has started sitting in the exact spot Yogi used to p*e in the garden. Never once before. He's still happy, still playful β€” Yogi left him that, a bit of his youth and cheek passed on to his brother, like a last gift. But there's a stillness in him too, like he's sitting with someone we can't see.
We get Yogi home tomorrow. And then, I think, is when we really start learning how to live without him in the room.

Here's what I need people to hear: pet loss is not "just a dog." He was healing, presence, unconditional love, a soul that met ours daily for years. Grief doesn't ask what species you loved β€” it just asks how much. If you've ever been made to feel silly for grieving an animal, you weren't being dramatic. You were loving something that mattered.
Run wild, my boy. We'll catch up to you one day. πŸΎπŸ’”

Choosing Yogi's roses. 🌹

I didn't just want two pretty roses for the garden. I needed to be drawn to them β€” properly drawn, not just liking the colour. They had to feel right.
The first garden centre had a sign up: no dogs allowed. I hate that rule at the best of times β€” if they are calm, well behaved, and loved, why should they have to wait outside while we're inside? But that day, of all days, choosing roses for our little boy, it really didn't sit right. Gizmo was with us, and we weren't about to leave one of us standing outside holding him while the other picked flowers for his brother. Not that day. He needed to be part of it too. So we left, and found somewhere else.
The second place, we carried him round with us the whole time. The ladies on the checkout made a proper fuss of him. That felt right. That's how it was supposed to go.
The roses we chose:
Gentle Hermione β€” soft pink, gentle, named after Hermione, the devoted wife of Leontes in Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale. Devotion that stayed gentle, even in the hardest moments.
It wasn't until the day after I saw the name β€” Leontes. Yogi's dad is called Leon. His was the bond even I couldn't compete with, Leon imprinted with Yogi, and here was a rose named for devotion, sitting right next to that name without either of us planning it that way.
Chandos Beauty β€” bold, warm apricot, wild and full, blooming through whatever weather comes. A vivid spirit that kept blooming regardless.
Between the two of them, I think we've got all of him. The gentle boy who healed us all quietly. The wild one who tore round the forest like nothing could touch him.
They'll go in planters, not straight in the ground β€” so wherever we go next, he comes with us.

Our dogs, they know our routines, our moods, the sound of our car in the drive, the exact moment we need a paw on our lap. My Yogi would watch intently as I began to cry at a film. Rushing to take my tears. His soft gaze would follow me round the room as I did my errands. Sometimes I would see him watch me, it would fill me with so much love, then we would cuddle. They love us before we've said a word, and if we watch closely they teach us how to live and how to find the beauty in everything.
Yogi has taught me so much about love, compassion and joy. He was also more than that though. I truly believe he was a healer.
When his dad had his ankle in a cast, Yogi stayed by his side, barely leaving him. And when I came home after my hysterectomy, in more pain than I'd ever known, he didn't leave me either. He licked my tears away, again and again, as if he somehow knew exactly what I needed, comfort, presence, love, without a single word. And those eyes...those big brown eyes, they read my soul.
Today I did our walk. The one we always did together. It was hard, harder than I expected, but I read something out loud that I wrote, as I went, the same path, the same bridges, just without his little legs trotting ahead of me.
And yet, somehow, he wasn't really absent at all.
I've had so many signs since he left, feathers where he used to lie, robins louder than I've ever heard, and today, butterflies. So many butterflies, dancing just ahead of me the whole way round, the exact distance he used to keep when he trotted along beside me. Some things you can't explain, you just feel them, and I felt him.
I can honestly say next to losing my Mam, I've never had so much pain. Going to bed and waking up without you cuddling in or washing my face. It's awful.

Yogi bear, thank you for every wag, every empathic look, every single ounce of love and joy you gave us, and for healing us in ways we're still discovering. We'll keep looking for you in the feathers and the butterflies.

You are my soulmate forever. My Mammy will take care of you now my little baby. Our hearts are completely broken πŸ’”

Happy summer solstice!!
The summer solstice is the longest day of the year β€” a powerful moment to pause, feel the sun on your skin and remember that you are alive, you are here, and you are enough. It's a time of full bloom, full light, and full presence. Just like the lotus, we rise. πŸŒΈβ˜€οΈ

Thank you so much to for organising such a lovely event!πŸŒ…βœ¨πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ’–
Was so nice to see so many people turning out for the summer solstice at 4.15am this morning. Such a gorgeous way to start the day.

I then had a lovely swim in the sea followed by breakfast on the beach with my lovely niece and lovely sister in law before going for a stroll and a visit to my Dad on the way home!

Happy summer solstice!! πŸŒ…βœ¨πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ’–
