Last week Alex and I were lucky enough to visit Alderdale Market Garden in Castle Hedingham. For the last year, Richard Wakeman has been transforming this land and house, from an abandoned site into the most stunning, productive market garden.
His story is inspiring. From leaving the corporate world and putting literally everything into following a dream. He has, and still is, on the steepest learning curve but he’s clever and investment (and a huge amount of hard graft) made in irrigation, bore hole repairs and technologically advanced systems, before sowing a seed, are now paying off.
It is an absolute pleasure to have alderdale now trade with us at Sudbury, Lavenham and Colchester farmers markets and we are excited to watch this growers journey evolve.
In the October issue of the Suffolk Magazine you’ll be able to read the full story of how Richard’s dreams, inspired by one book, have led him to this very special place that he now calls home. In the meantime, come along to one of our farmers markets and meet the grower in person.
