Bury Market My wonderful dad died on the 21st of April aged just 88. He was on a cruise with my mum when he started feeling unwell and then had a heart attack. Although the hospital care he received over 2 days was excellent, he sadly didn't recover and died peacefully in his sleep. He had been asking my mum when he would be going back to work at the market, he loved it that much!
My grandparents started our business in 1945, just after the war. My dad's job, aged 7 years old was to sell corduroy fents. His own mother still came to the market on Saturdays in the 1980's and worked
until she was 94!
I started working on the market on Saturdays when I was 13 and went full time in 1993 so I have had the pleasure of working with my dad for over 35 years. He loved going with me to various warehouses and delighted in discovering beautiful fabrics and eye catching designs and had a wide knowledge of various types of fabrics.
In 2018 I had an eye operation and couldn't work for three months so my mum and dad ran the stall together aged 76 and 80 years old! They have always worked hard and brought us up to do the same.
I have had lots of hugs and kind words from the many traders who knew and respected him saying how sorry they are which shows how much he was loved.
His philosophy in life was to be kind, not to take life too seriously and to "Always keep your sense of humour." Love you dad! π
